“ Manufacturer: Asda / Type: Smoothies „
As many of you know by reading my reviews I am not the wellest person in the world. I have a variety of ailments and one of my biggest issues is suffering with M.E. At the moment I've got it rather bad along with an iron and potassium deficiency. I'm exhausted all of the time and been struggling with my diet to prepare meals properly and things so ended up either with my mate bunging something in the oven for me or if left to me eating ready meals.
I knew though that the stuff I was eating probably wasn't helping me a bit but it is catch 22.... I knew I needed better grub but still, I was too ill to solve the issue. However one night when I was feeling a little better I was able to do a bit more and go shopping and things. I went a quick, late night shop to Asda the other night and only picked up healthy eating types of stuff and one of the things I treated myself to is this Orange, mango & Passion Fruit Smoothie as I really fancied it and felt it was probably better for me that my usual option of pop!
This comes in a cardboard carton with a white plastic integrated twist on/off cap to the top of it and the carton itself is a light yellowish colour and on two sides of that we are told that it is Asda 'Chosen By You' 100% Fruit Orange Mango & Passion Fruit Smoothie 'Made with nothing but pure fruit' and that it gives us 2 of our recommended portions of fruit/veg a day per 250ml of the drink and that in the carton there is 750ml of it. Other information on the carton includes being told a bit about the product and the ingredients used within it, there is a full nutritional chart listed and contact details for Asda are listed. Its a nice enough informative and easy to pour the smoothie out of carton this is and I like it well enough!
The Drink Itself:
Along with the ingredient list we are also spelt out what fruit has gone into this. We are told that a carton of it contains 3 apples 3 oranges, 1 1/2 mango's, 1 banana and 1 passion fruit. Of course other ingredients are involved in the making of this smoothie but thats letting us know at a glance what we are getting type of thing.
The drink pours easily and is best served chilled in my opinion. Its a bright orange colour and when being poured (which although its reasonably thick it does pour with ease) it has a rich aroma of mango's to it.
Its a very smooth and naturally very sweet drink. Its also tastes naturally fruity with the main of the flavour coming through from the mango's and to be honest the other flavours are not all that noticeable at all.
When being consumed this is pleasant enough. However it is slightly sour once consumed and leaves an odd tinny after taste in my mouth and also its quite harsh due to the acidity of the mango's and leaves me feel really, really thirsty seconds after drinking it.
I also think that this is a rather filling drink too and I can't drink very much of it at all. I basically would call this mango juice personally as I don't think the blend is all that great and the harshness leaves me thirsty and with like a slight burning sensation in my chest a bit like indigestion!
Not for me this one and I can't recommended it sadly though its a good price per carton.
