Advantages: Extremely cheap
Disadvantages: A bit too much fizz
Contrary to most people I have never been into alcoholic drinks. Mostly because I cannot handle alcohol. On the rare occassions I decide a glass of wine with dinner would be a nice change approx 15 mins after finishing it I feel quite drowsy and want to sleep. So recently I have experimenting with lots of different soft drinks - coke gets very boring after a while and tends to run through me.
But enough of that. So I've become partial to a bit of lime and lemonade and have been going through a 2L bottle of lemonade in a couple of days. While I was browsing the soft drinks aisle I came across the Asda smartprice lemonade.
Smartprice is Asda'a value range and it covers a variety of food and drink at very cheap prices. This lemonade is available in 2L bottles and is 17p.

The Bottle
~~~~~~~
The bottle is a conventional 2L clear plastic bottle with Asda's white bottle label around the middle with the product writing in green. The label also lists the ingredients (below) and nutritional value. It is 1 calorie per 250ml serving.
Good news is that the bottle is recyclable (yippee!) but I had to search hard for the symbol. It PET-01.
I bought this in May-08 and the Best Before is Nov-2008, so 6 month shelf life.
The Product
~~~~~~~~
I'm a bit sceptical about value ranges but have been pleasantly surprised recently. On opening the bottle for the first time, the sound was quite strong. Not loud but as if there was enough carbonation to produce a weighty sound. On pouring the lemonade there was a lot of fizz and this didn't change the 5 or 6 subsequent times that I opened and poured the drink. I've noticed that coke goes flat very quickly but there was no sign of any flatness or loss of fizz with this drink.

The Taste
~~~~~~~
As you get close to drink you can smell the sweetness and lemon. Upon tasting the drink, at first the fizz is overwhelming so you have to let that subside before you can actually taste the drink. If you drink this quickly it can be a bit of a shock so regulate how fast and how much you drink in one go.
You are not left with a bad aftertaste but a faint taste of the sweetener.
Verdict
~~~~~
I've tried many lemonade brands and the quality of this lemonade is up with the best of them. I've opened a single bottle at most 10 times and each time you get the pop and there is no fizz lost when you pour the drink. I've also never experienced any flatness in each glass I have had. At only 17p for 2L I would definitely recommend this. I'm considering using this at parties too, so four stars from me!
For me it is certainly an alternative to alcoholic drinks and the juice drinks like J2O as I find the latter too too sweet.

Ingredients
~~~~~~~~
Carbonated water, Citric Acid, Natural Flavouring, Sweeteners (Sodium Saccharin, Acesulfame K, Sucralose), Acidity Regulator (Sodium Citrates), Preservative (Potassium Sorbate)
There is no aspartame in this drink and Asda have a sign on the label that states it is aspartame free. I believe Asda is or has removed all aspartame from its products.
