Advantages: Cheap price

Disadvantages: Unattractive packaging, horrible taste, ingredients

I'm not really a drinker of fizzy pop but when a friend of mine came to stay recently I had to do a hasty 'junk food' shop so to speak.

It's ridiculous how much some of the more popular brands charge for a bottle of lemonade so I turned of course to Asda's very own Smartprice brand.
I'm usually quite impressed with their own products but this was one of those times I found myself wrinkling my nose with disgust.

On the surface yes a 2 litre bottle of lemonade for about 25p or so is pretty good in today's climate but of course that doesn't account for the horrendous taste.
The bottle itself is a bit bland and nothing eye catching. Following the usual Smartprice colour of green and white buit when you actually taste the lemonade UGH!

First of all it didn't really fizz when you opened it and I bought three bottles so it wasn't just bad luck on my behalf. Secondly it tasted rather flat - there was no real fizz to it and it left a horrible taste in my mouth. I also found that instead of quenching my throat it left it feeling rather dry and unpleasant and just made me want to drink something else. It made my tongue burn as well which makes me wonder just how chemical happy they got when making it! I could make this really with tap water and a few heaps of sugar because really that's all it tasted like, weak water with no sparkle whatsoever.

There wasn't really a trace of lemon at all when you tasted it. I was also surprised to read the label and see all the artifical sweeteners used. The product isn't really good for yo uat all and it's much more worthwhile either making your own lemonade or shelling out a bit extra on a better brand. I felt very let down by the Smartprice label here though obviously not everybody's perfect.

And for those amongst you that want the ingredients:

Carbonated water, Citric Acid, Natural Flavouring, Sweeteners (Sodium Saccharin, Acesulfame K, Sucralose), Acidity Regulator (Sodium Citrates), Preservative (Potassium Sorbate)

Summary: Not the most popular Smartprice product at our house...
