Nasty sticky water........ (Asda Smart Price Lemonade)

Disadvantages: Too sweet, goes flat quick, totally unnatural taste wise

As part of my "shopping on a budget" initiative I decided to try and switch from brands or supermarket own brands to Value branded products. First up was lemonade. My reasoning was I usually drink lemonade with vodka with friends, so we do go through a fair amount of lemonade on a weekend. Drunk in reasonable quantities the vodka takes away the taste of the lemonade so I thought why not.... Smartprice lemonade cant be that bad can it??

In short ... Yes!!

As this is a Smartprice branded product the lemonade is only available from Asda stores. For a 2 litre bottle its 18p... so extremely cheap but be warned you certainly get what you pay for with this product... not a lot!!

As with all of the Smartprice Range the lemonade bottle wears a green and white label with "Smartprice" emblazoned on the front. Not the most attractive of bottles but certainly what you would expect from an 18p bottle of lemonade.

**As a mixer**

I have only tried this with vodka, reason being is I did not want to ruin anymore alcohol with this stuff. It's simply awful. When mixed with vodka this lemonade gives quite an unnatural plastic taste. There is a sweet taste to the drink but not sweet enough. The lemon taste that the drink has is very week and overpowered by the unnatural sweet acidic taste the lemonade leaves in your mouth. Even when this comes from a newly opened bottle the drink is virtually flat and lacks fizz.

**As a soft Drink**
After my bad experience with the vodka I am not sure why I tried this alone as a soft drink. Curiosity maybe... a bit like licking a cell battery knowing that you will get an electric shock? The lemonade tasted how I thought; awful!

The fizz seems to disappear immediately when the bottle is opened. After only a day the lemonade is completely flat.

The flat lemonade tastes very unnatural more so than other soft drinks. The lemon taste is apparent immediately in an unpleasant acidic way, albeit it is not a strong lemon taste. The drink just tastes very weak but sugary and sweet. I only managed a few mouthful of the drink as it was so awful. But for 10 minutes after drinking the lemonade I was left with a sweet acidic taste in my mouth which actually made my tongue sting a bit!

From first glance, the product has less calories than most other diet lemonades so dieters may think that this is a good purchase. For an extra calorie choose a better quality diet lemonade as the taste of the Smartprice lemonade is simply awful.

Some of the Smartprice range are excellent value for money and decent products....... The Smartprice lemonade however is a very bad example!!
