“ Manufacturer: Asda / Type: Milk „
A few weeks back my daughter caught hand, foot and mouth from nursery. She was OK apart from the horrible mouth ulcers all over her mouth and tongue associated with the virus. As a result of this she was very reluctant to eat or drink anything. I had to resort to syringing water into her mouth to keep her hydrated as she was scared to eat or drink.
My Mum got this for us in Asda. My daughter has never liked cows milk but she seemed happy to try 'pink milk'. The milk comes in two sizes a small 330ml bottle which is 50p and a larger 1 litre bottle which is £1.19. There are also a couple of other flavours banana, vanilla and chocolate. The milk comes in a plastic bottle with a screw on lid this applies to both sizes.
The milk has the chosen for you label on it and the bottle tells me that the product is made from British milk the product is also free from any artificial colours and preservatives.
The ingredients are;
Semi Skimmed Milk (92%), Sugar, Skimmed Milk Powder, Concentrated Strawberry Juice (0.5%), Stabilisers (Carrageenan, Xanthan Gum), Colour (Beetroot Red), Natural Flavouring.
I always thought this drink would be like a milkshake however it has a thin consistency like normal milk. The milk has a lovely pink colour and a nice strawberry smell. I have tasted this milk and I liked it, I could only have a small glass as it is too sweet for me. My daughter however absolutely loves this. It was the perfect solution when she was reluctant to eat and drink as she told me it was cool on her sore mouth. It is quite filling too I always find a glass of milk suppresses my appetite.
The nutritional information is as follows;
Typical values Per 200ml serving:
of which sugars 19.8g
of which saturates 2.0g
equivalent as salt 0.2g
Calcium 296mg (37% RDA)
This milk does have about 10g more sugar in it per serving than just plain milk but everything in moderation.
I would recommend this milk it is a nice alternative to milk shake. It also goes well with plain cereals like Corn Flakes and Rice Crispies.
5 stars from us.
Theres afew great tricks Ive discovered while being a parent, as sometimes trying to get your kids to do certain things is a huge battle in itself. When my son first caught me making a fruit smoothie, he asked ' Are you making ice cream? '.I never corrected him. Great way to get fruit into him without him realising. I also told him if he eats broccoli he will fly like the cartoon character Tree Fu Tom. That worked for afew days then he realised he would rather not fly because eating broccoli was too traumatic.
When it comes to drinking milk my son is abit hit and miss. But when he sees this bottle of flavoured milk in Asda he thinks it's a milkshake, again I don't disagree, and for me it's a great way for him to have milk with an added touch of fun to it. And for 50p it doesn't break the bank.
How is it packaged?
It comes in a 330ml plastic bottle with screw top lid. The label is mostly pink in colour with a black stripe around the top saying ' Asda Chosen by You ' .On the front is a picture of some strawberries splashing in some milk. It also states it contains less than 2% fat and is high in calcium. The label itself makes the product very appealing so does the job to grab your attention.
On the back is the nutritional information, ingredients, suitable for vegetarians and use by date.
Semi Skimmed Milk (92%) , Sugar , Skimmed Milk Powder , Concentrated Strawberry Juice (0.5%) , Stabilisers (Carrageenan, Xanthan Gum) , Colour (Beetroot Red) , Natural Flavouring
How does it taste?
Its refreshing, as milk should be. Same consistency but tinted with a lovely pink hue to it. Definitely has a strawberry taste to it and the scent of it smells just as it tastes which is I can only describe as fruity berry milk. Its not overally sweet, but enough to satisfy. Very easy and pleasant to drink.
Would buy again? Yes I would, and have done on many occasions. Its great that they come in different flavours and that they are in these handy 330ml bottles and the larger sizes as well. Would love it if they came in multipacks which would be handy for this household.
I do like the odd drink of Strwberry Milk so I pick up a bottle of this every now nd then in Asda. I think that this is just as nice - if not better than the brand named branch which is yazoo and this is a little bit cheaper as well
This is found in the chiller section next to the Milk products. This comes in 500ml bottle and this costs 58p but sometimes you can get this on a 2 for £1 offer. I normally just buy the 1 bottle through when the mood takes me.
This comes in a bottle that looks the same as the Dooyoo picture. A clear plastic bottle nd you can see the light pink Milk through the bottle and there is a little pic of a Strawberry on the front. The lid for this is easy enough to open and the neck of the bottle is pretty wide so easy enough to drink from the bottle or pour into a glass.
This isn't thick like a Milkshake and just much the consistency of normal Milk which is fine for me as although I do have the odd thicker Milkshake it is not something that I tend to drink much.
The taste of this is really nice. Best drank when this is nice and cold. It is fresh and tastes like a real Strawberry taste and not full of Sugars and general manufacturered flavourings. I don't have a bottle to hand but I think calorie wise this has about 40 calories per 100ml so not the best drink for you.
A really nice flavoured Milk and nice for a change from Juice.
I am a little addicted to milkshake especially strawberry and banana flavour and I usually tend to buy the milkshake powder. The thing with powders though is although they are more cost effective than buying flavoured milk I sometimes over do the powder and end up with overly sweet milkshake.
Frijj milkshake I find is too thick and can make me feel quite sick after a few sips. Whilst browsing in Asda I found this flavoured milk it comes in Strawberry, Banana and Chocolate. On this occasion I purchased Strawberry and banana for £1.50 each.
The strawberry milk comes in a 1 litre container which contains pasteurised semi skimmed milk with concentrated strawberry juice in for flavouring. The milk like any other milk has to be kept in the fridge to stop it from going off and has to be drank within 3 days once the seal has been broken and the milk has been opened. You are advised to shake the bottle before pouring yourself a glass I think is to mix the syrup and milk up.
So now for the taste test.....
Pouring the milkshake releases the baby pink coloured milk which comes out with small bubbles on it and for semi skimmed milk it does have quite a slightly thick texture to it though no where near as thick as Frijj milkshakes are. The taste is just right the strawberry flavour fills your mouth and is quite creamy and you can taste strawberry even after the drink is finished. If you have tried milkshake in a liquid form where you mix the syrup into the milk before you will know it has a slightly unique taste to it which this milkshake also has I still like it though.
I do think paying £1.50 for a carton of milk which won't last that long is quite expensive so I do just buy this a treat.
I give Asda strawberry milk 4 stars.
Asda continually strive to offer their customers decent own brand goods at competitive prices.Although the gigantic Asda superstores are often packed it is worthwhile taking a look at their discounted goods. My grandchildren love flavoured milk and it is one drink that I am more than happy to purchase for them. Surely a glass of the Asda flavoured milk has to beat a tumbler full of sweet fizzy pop.
At this moment in time Asda have their strawberry flavoured milk on special offer. Two one litre bottles for £1.50p. Look at some of the branded flavoured milk such as Yazoo and it is significantly more expensive. But obviously the proof of the pudding is in the eating and sometimes paying a low price can be reflected in the quality of the goods.
Sensibly Asda have used plastic bottles to hold the flavoured milk. These plastic bottles can be washed and are recyclable. The Asda strawberry flavoured milk is quite a pale pink. Many flavoured milks are alarmingly bright in colour. Take the top from the bottle and the milk smells pleasant. The aroma of strawberries is there but not overpoweringly so. My grandchildren like their flavoured milk chilled well. Pour the Asda strawberry milk into a glass and it looks fine.
Asda have chosen to add the fruit flavouring to semi-skimmed milk. A good idea because many of us tend to shy away from full fat milk. The flavouring appears to come from a small amount of strawberry flavoured concentrate. We felt that the flavour was just about right, not too weak and neither too strong.
We were especially pleased to see that Asda have stated that the flavoured milk contains no artificial colours or flavours. A 200 ml serving contains just under 70 calories. However it has to be said that the milk still contains its fair share of sugar. So the children are only going to enjoy this Asda flavoured milk once in a while.
Although the contents of the bottle rarely last long the Asda flavoured milk can be stored in the fridge for up to three days. Asda have made the milk taste `fruity` and pleasant. Asda have offered the product at a good price and it is definitely worth trying for yourselves.
Asda Strawberry flavoured milk is one of the best types of milkshake you will find on the shelves in any supermarket on this day.
After trying most major supermarket chains own strawberry flavoured milk they all fall far short of this one in terms of quality and most importantly flavour.
I have tried Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrison's and co-op strawberry flavoured milk and comparing them to Asda then there is no contest.
Asda seem to have mastered the mixture of flavour and thickness without making it to thick if you know what I mean.
A fridge milkshake is far to thick to drink in my opinion whereas a Yazoo is pure liquid with not much thickness.
Asda flavoured milk falls between these two perfectly and the others have failed.
The flavour is tasteful and lasting yet it is not to strong and when chilled it does a great job at satisfying your thirst.
Asda sell it in 1 litre bottles and for the past few months it has only been £1.
This is cheaper than everyone else's flavoured milk in 1 litre bottles.
No artificial colours or flavours are contained and 92% of the bottle is semi skimmed milk.
A whole one of these who cost you about 700 calories which may put some people off but believe me it is worth it.
The shelf life on one of these is great for a fresh item, normally about 7 days and 3 days to consume once opened.
The bottle is plastic and recyclable. It is see through a pink strawberry pictured label round the middle.
If you fancy something chilling and refreshing thats a bit different then get down to Asda and try one. Banana, Chocolate and Vanilla flavours are also available.
After recently trying out the vanilla milk within this range of milky offerings from Asda and really loving it I couldn't wait next time I was in Asda to nab another bottle though this time I really wanted to try the strawberry flavoured one for a change. I love milky flavoured drinks but I don't like them tasting fake or too sweet and with the vanilla one I got a lovely milk flavoured drink with a hint of vanilla to it so hoped that would be the same with the strawberry one!
330ml see-through oblong shaped bottle with a white plastic screw on/off lid to the top of it and a light pink label on the front of the bottle and to the sides of it. On the front of the bottle there is a picture of a strawberry on there being splashed with milk and I'm told that it is Asda Strawberry Milk, the size is stated (as I've listed already) and I'm told that it contains no artificial colours or flavours. Other information given on the bottle includes ingredients and a full nutritional chart being shown, storage details are listed and contact details for Asda are given. It's a nice enough bottle and it is informative enough too!
Light pink in colour and sort of milkshake looking but very light in colour. Twist off the lid and you get a delicate and very natural smell of strawberries come from it.
Taste wise well this didn't disappoint me at all! Best served cool/cold this milk is semi-skimmed so contained body without being greasy on the palette and the strawberry flavour was distinctive but still light and natural and allowed the taste of milk to come through nicely.
I liked this milk and liked it's delicate flavouring. Don't confuse this with milk shake though it really isn't at all thick but it is what it is and that is a light flavoured milk and very appealing to us adults, it should be!
