Advantages: Not sure
Disadvantages: Not sure either
I am not a big drinker by any stretch of the imagination. Until quite recently, I barely touched alcohol at all, preferring a good old cuppa! However, I have tried Bacardi Breezers on occasions, but it is only in the last few months that I have taken to them when going out. I still only have one or two at the most, but I do enjoy them when I have them. Bacardi Breezers are made by Bacardi and Company Limited, and are made up from Bacardi rum, sparkling water, and flavourings. The flavourings differ depending on the flavour of the bottle in hand. Bacardi Breezer was originally launched in the UK in 1993. It had already made a breakthrough in the US market. It was placed in "wine cooler" market, which did not exist in the UK. Initially US advertising was imported into the UK portraying sunny beaches, hot summers days, relaxing in hammocks, desert islands, real fruit, etc. with the consumer benefit being to "cool off". In other words, it’s advertising was aimed at those people who liked a refreshing drink, synonymous with relaxation and holidays. At that time, in the UK, apart from pints of lager etc, the market for women focused mainly on white wine. The bottle drinks market had not yet arrived, and Bacardi Breezer was bringing an entirely new drinking format to that market. Bacardi Breezer decided that in order to enter this market it would need to position itself as a "credible alternative to beer". Being an entirely new category of drink to the UK, initial UK advertising had to dramatise who drank Bacardi Breezer, why, when, where, and exactly what the drink was. These executions formed the award winning "True Stories" campaign. The campaign consisted of 4 executions: "Henry 8th", "Dick Tracy", "Einstein" and "Romeo & Juliet". Following a successful launch into the UK market, it was essential for Bacardi Breezer to establish its own "bran
d essence". As such the "Latin Spirit in Everyone" was born. In the 9 years since its launch, Bacardi Breezer has gone from strength to strength (metaphorically speaking!) Initially only available in limited flavours, here in the UK, Bacardi Breezer is now available in 8 different flavours: Watermelon, Cranberry, Orange, Lime, Pineapple, Peach, Lemon, and the latest edition Ruby Grapefruit. Bacardi Breezer is available in 275ml glass bottles, and it is also available in 330 ml plastic bottles for out door Bacardi Breezer sponsored events such as music festivals. Bacardi Breezer minis, which are 200ml bottles, are available in 10 packs in Orange and Cranberry. Bacardi Breezer is available in can format in Germany. Bacardi Breezers contain no animal products, including colourings and flavourings, and are therefore suitable for vegetarians and Vegans. FACTS AND FIGURES The name “Ron”, as in Ron Bacardi, is the Spanish word for Rum. The Bat symbol on the label and the bottle top dates back to 1862, when the family first started producing their new drink (Bacardi Rum) According to local lore bats were popularly thought to bring good health, fortune and family unity. Also the Taínos, Cuba’s extinct native people, regarded the bats as possessors of all cultural goods. The family adopted the bat symbol, and it has been used ever since. Bacardi Breezer is not available in France. This is due to the current prohibitive duty rates on spirit mixed drinks. Cranberry was originally introduced as a limited edition flavour, but proved so popular, it has been retained as a full time member of the group of flavours. The most popular flavour overall is Watermelon. The latest edition to the flavours is ruby grapefruit. It is available singly and in packs of four. Being an alcoholic drink, Bacardi Breezer is sold in the drinks department of supermarkets,
and is only available to over 18s. However, there was initially a great deal of concern over young teenagers buying the drinks and drinking them like “pop”. The name “Alcopop” was derived from the words alcohol and pop as a result of this. MY FAVOURITES My absolute favourite is the new Ruby Grapefruit. It is sharper than some of the others which can be a little sweet. I also like the Tropical Lime, and the Peach, but I am finding the latter hard to come by. My local Tesco doesn’t seem to have stocked it for a few months now. I’m probably in the minority, but I do not like the watermelon, but then, I don’t like watermelon as a fruit either. I’m not over keen on the orange flavour either. Bacardi Breezers should always be served ice cold. They are certainly not as nice lukewarm! They “cool” way to drink them is direct from the bottle, but I have to say I still prefer a glass! I will never be a big drinker. I just don’t like it that much. But I find people are happier asking for a Bacardi Breezer in a bar, than my usual diet coke!
