Advantages: Great ales, great lagers, great locations.

Disadvantages: If you live away from Dorset, you'll have a hard job finding a Badger pub.

If you live in Dorset or have ever visited the county, chances are you've been to a pub run by Hall and Woodhouse - the 'Badger' brewery.

Specialising in real ales, but also producing some fine lagers, the Badger brewery is based in Blandford, Dorset. It owns pubs mainly in Dorset, but some can be found as far afield as central London.

Badger's most well known product is undoubtedly 'Tanglefoot'. Combining a light hoppy taste with a killer 5.2% abv punch, it's not for the faint-hearted, and certainly not for the designated driver! Found mainly on draught, it's my favourite beer. There are also canned and bottled varieties, but these taste noticably different from the barrel version. If in doubt, get a pint.

Other ales include Badger Best and IPA, both of which can hold the own against comparable beers from other breweries. There's also a Caffrey's-a-like called 'Dempsey's', but the less said about that the better!

Although I'm quite sure most people don't look at the brewery when deciding where to go on a night out, if you're looking to sample some fine beers and lagers (beard and arran sweater optional!) then you could do a lot worse!
