In recent months it has become unfashionable to drink bottled water. There has been great concern that the water, particularly in plastic bottles may contain toxins, there is also concern about the distance that some water has to travel to be sold here...which is particularly poignant when you consider that most days in England are spent in the rain each year!
I am very proud to go into a restaurant and order a 'jug of tap' I have done this for ever really and have never been embarrassed to ask for something that should essentially be available to all customers anyway!
As an occasional treat I will buy a bottle of Badoit sparkling water. I do keep this as a special treat though as not only is it quite expensive, it is also from Europe so I am mindful of the distance that it has to travel. The water has been around for 'high end' sales for a long time and is a real favourite of mine. The bottle is simple, yet stylish and it is the kind of thing you find in a swanky restaurant or bar. It has a distinctive (usually in this case glass) bottle and a label, printed in green and white (with distinctive and eye catching logo too!). The water is lightly carbonated and this is one of the reasons why I purchase this now and again. Some fizzy waters are unbearable...too many bubbles cause my nose to feel like it is on fire - others have so few bubbles, they just taste flat. Badoit has got the amount of CO2 in the drink just right. It tastes light and sparkly. The water has a metallic aftertaste which I like (imagine licking a stainless steel sink if you will!) and a smooth overall taste. When opened it does tend to lose its fizz quickly, unless the lid is tightly put back on, so it is definitely a drink to enjoy at the 'moment'!
I think this water looks classy and looks good on a nicely laid out table. I recently went for Sunday brunch with friends and the bottles of this on the table just looked great.
I recently paid £1.89 for a small (500ml) bottle of this at a delicatessen in London. It is an expensive 'high end' sparkling water...but worth it!
