Advantages: Easy Drinking
Disadvantages: Pricey
First available in 1974, 'Baileys' is a cream-based liqueur. The drink is a mixture of Irish Whiskey, cream, and other selected spirits, with an alcoholic content of 17%.
In terms of its price, Baileys is a drink which has fluctuated a lot over the years. I remember that not too long ago, a one litre bottle could cost over £17 in some places - truly extortionate. However, things have settled down now, and Tescos are currently selling the popular tipple at a more reasonable (but still pricey) £13.90.
For those who are seeking a cheaper drink with similar properties, most supermarkets sell the alternate versions - some of which are actually really nice. Many of these replicas have names based around the key words 'Mist', 'Country', 'Irish', and 'Meadow' - for example, 'Irish Mist', Irish Meadow', 'Country Meadow' and 'Country Mist'!
Per 1.5 oz. serving, Baileys Irish Cream contains: 6.7g Fat, 8.5g Carbohydrate, 1.4g Protein, and 403 Calories - so its probably not the best drink for those on a diet - but hey, it's Christmas!
In terms of its demographic, I would argue that Baileys is an older persons drink - both my grans love the stuff! I like it too, but it's not something I would buy in the pub - because i'd get a lot of stick from my mates.
The flavour is nice and creamy, without the alcohol being too strong, and in that sense, I would say it was a fairly easy-drinking liqueur. For me, there's only one way to consume it - with lots of ice - I find it to taste most pleasing that way.
If there was ever a drink which I would describe as 'Christmassy', it would probably be Baileys. Lots of people seems to buy it at this festive season, and it always finds its way to the most prominent positions in the supermarkets ready to tempt the shoppers. Highly recommended.
Summary: Very Nice Tipple
