Advantages: Delicious

Disadvantages: expensive

I'm a great fan of Baileys and would drink gallons of the stuff if my pocket or stomach would let me. But sadly at 6.97 for just 35cls at Asda then it is a luxury I can rarely afford.

Other prices of Baileys are

10.47 for 70cls
15.38 for 1 litre
4.98 for 4 minis which are 70mls each

My way of counteracting the expense of Baileys is to let my nearest and dearest know how much I love Baileys and what a wonderful present it would make for christmas and birthdays and I'm now almost guarrenteed to get at least one bottle each time.

Packaging
*********
Baileys comes in a black bottle that is slightly see-thru so you know when you need to replenish you supplies. It has the Baileys logo across the front of the bottle which consists of a dark green background with gold edging and the words Baileys Original Irish Cream written in a semicircle and then Baileys The Original written in a straught line underneath. There is also a picture of a landscape with trees and hills and such like. It all looks very regal and to add to that look there is a raised seal of two B's above the label on the front of the bottle.

On the back of the bottle there is a label with the usual barcode, expiry date, how many uk units is in the bottle (17) and what percent it is (17%). There is also some information about what temperature is best to drink Baileys at (5-25C) and that it shouldn't be mixed with citrus or acidic drinks, mainly because the cream will curdle and be vile.

First Impressions
*****************
Right, in the interests of science (yeah, right!) I'm going to crack open the bottle. The cap turns quite easily and the creamy smell hits my nostrils. It smells very high in alcohol content and makes me want to drink it. Here goes...

Yum...It's a smooth, creamy taste with an aftertaste that kicks. The taste stays in your mouth for quite a while and is utterly gorgous.

My fa
vourite way of drinking Baileys is over ice as it seems to last longer and is really nice cold. I have also been known to pour a little (alright a lot!) over ice cream and it goes best with vanilla in my opinion.

Final Conclusion
****************
I have always been a fan of Baileys ever since my grandma and grandad used to let me have a thimble full at christmas when I was nine. From then on I made sure the Baileys bottle was the first out of the
coverted drinks cabinet. Every time I drink Baileys now it reminds me of christmas, playing cards and warm fires. I guess I'll have to win the lottery though as I'm sure I could go through a bottle very quickly. Mind you it is probably best that I can't indulge myself as much as I'd like as the calorie content is probably very high and I'd also be very sick.

Roll on 23rd birthday though as my christmas bottle is nearly empty.

Lovely review. When we were in our thrirties, i would buy Heather a case of Gordons Gin for her Mothers Day presnet every year. She now drinks more wine.

I also love pouring booze on ice-cream as a desert. I first encountered this when i was analysing whiskies for export certification when i was a Public Analyst. The 5 years' old Glen Grant Malt whisky was the best selling whisky in Italy, and was sent there in a special bottle with a plastic restrictor, that allowed a thin stream of the glorious fluid to be poured onto ice-cream. Grappa is also a favourite for this purpose. My own favourite was the 140 Proof whisky samples we were sent in for analysis.

Ice cream with an alcohol content of about 25% is a REAL treat. mmmmmmmm puts Hagen Das really in the shade.

Wasting Bailey's on ice? That only dilutes the stuff when the cubes melt. What a waste. Have you tried Haagen-Daz Bailey's Ice Cream?
