I like coke, and that's about as far as my impressions of cola go- not a fan of pepsi, not a fan of supermarket cola.
Barr's cola is definitely in the class of supermarket cola, sitting between coca-cola/pepsi and tesco value coke, and it is a pleasant drink, and it readily available as the Barr big 4 that all shops stock (lemonade, irn bru, diet irn bru, cola)
It has a very volatile bubbliness that is common to BARR products, although this isn't so bad as the citrus based drinks, lemon and lime ade.
It doesn't taste amazing, certainly not worth a special journey like one might do for some really good still lemonade (is there any premium cola on the market?) but for 39p a can it is a ridiculous bargain, nearly half the price of a can of coke! and if you want a can, but you don't want to pay for coke/pepsi, Barr's cola might be your best option.
Worth a try, but not a show stopper, it's no irn bru.
I am an avid 'cola-taster' and will try every brand possible if it makes cola. I don't agree that the most expensive are the best AT ALL and think that they DO NOT "all taste the same" as some people say.
Barr cola is not widely available, mostly in the corner shops around my area, but thats an awful lot of shops so I guess it IS available quite commonly.
I've only ever seen it in cans or in 2 litre bottles. When you open either the can or the bottle you get a good fizz sound and the fizz rises well. The taste of the cola is mainly an average taste, but the fizz still remains in your drink for a while before it goes flat. The big bottle (two litres) seems to go flat after 2 days on average in the fridge, but for 90p I wont complain, especially as it's mostly gone by then and if its not then I wont worry too much as the price is just so good. Quenches thirst quickly and is great for mixing with alcohol. I think that I wouldnt go out my way to buy this but if I saw it in a shop I would buy a can. As the cans have a slightly nicer taste than the bottles do. Overall, I'g give this Barr Cola a rating of 6/10.
Barr Cola is something I have only come across fairly recently when my mum bought back a couple of cans from our local corner shop. I love cola but must admit to being quite a snob as to what brands I will drink, I only tend to really drink Coca Cola and Pepsi as I find that supermarket's own brands often lack the proper cola taste. Barr Cola is available in 330ml cans, 250ml bottles, 500ml bottles and also 750ml glass bottles though I must say that I have only ever come across the cans which retail for just 35p.
When it came to tasting this cola I really did not expect much at all but when I sampled it I was pleasantly surprised by its lovely sweet flavour, to me it tastes so much like proper Coca Cola that I happily slurped back my can. The drink itself is dark brown with plenty of fizz and is refreshing too, I enjoyed mine ice cold from the fridge. There are 42 calories per 100ml of this drink so perhaps it isn't the best if you are watching your weight, also probably not the best for diabetics due to each 250ml serving containing 26g of sugar!
Overall I am extremely happy with the product and really wish I could find it in big bottles as it is so darn nice! If you are a cola fan and are unfamiliar with this then I would definately recommend it, especially if you have a full set of sweet teeth like me!
The other night I had to go to hospital. Knowing I was going to be stuck in accident and emergency for hours (I was and for 4 hours to be precise lol), on route I popped to a newsagents and decided to get a few bits and pieces as I didn't want to be stuck paying out for what I wanted within the hospital as I'm not made of money!
I picked up 4 different flavours of Barrs drinks and one of them was this cola. I bought it in a 250ml bottle which cost me 29p but it also comes in 330ml can sizes and 2l bottles and the likes as well though them sizes were not available when I bought my bottle!
Well the bottle I had was as I said a 250ml one, clear plastic and with a slight curve to the middle of it and a blue twist on/off lid/cap to the top of it and around the middle of it, it has a red coloured label. On the front of that we are told that it is Barr 'Refreshing the nation' Cola and then on the back of the bottle other information listed includes ingredients, a nutritional chart and an at a glance nutritional chart and the website for the manufacturer (wwww.agbarr.co.uk) is given. Informative enough bottle this is and in the 250ml size I bought I thought it was perfect size for my needs.
Best served chilled chilled/cold this is a dark brown and very slightly bubbly cola that once opened starts to lose its fizz very fast indeed. Sweet, but naturally so this is really nice though nothing like Coco Cola or Pepsi as to me it isn't as gassy and is somewhat sweeter than I'm used to. I don't find this as refreshing as leading brands but it is a good quality soft drink for sure though if you don't like sweet cola this may not be for you at all! For me though I like it just wish it had a wee bit more life in it!
