Advantages: Fabby hangover cure
Disadvantages: Irn Bru burps!
I'm Scottish, so I'm possibly not the most unbiased person to be talking about Scotland's second national drink. However, I will tell you what I think about this amber nectar, and a couple of uses that the advertisers don't (always) point out.
Firstly, it is an exceedingly sweet drink, so if you're not into bottled sugar, it might be best to give it a wide berth. I was brought up on the stuff, so that doesn't bother me. As has been mentioned before, it does stain if spilt, but the stains usually come out if washed quite quickly and a stain remover is used. It's also very gassy. Irn bru burps are not the most pleasant odour to be sharing, and believe me, you can identify an Irn Bru burp from 10 paces!
Now for the other uses I use Irn Bru for. Firstly it is the only thing that has an effect on hangovers for me. It's possibly not just me that this works for if the number of hungover souls in the corner shops looking for Irn Bru on Saturday mornings are anything to go on.
Secondly, and this one was recommended to me and it works! I suffer from quite severe migraines, and was told an Alkaseltzer and a glass of Irn Bru would shift it. I was dubious, especially as the over-the-counter medications hadn't dented it, but surprise surprise, another one in the cap for the wonderul Bru! Obviously don't be trying this if your doctor's given you advice, but hey, worked for me.
Summary: Very sweet and gassy, but very yummy.

- 10/08/08 So do you dissolve the alka seltzer in the Irn Bru or drink it separately? Will have to try that out! |
