Irn Bru was invented in Scotland, and that might somewhat explain why it's so strange (sorry, couldn't resist). All jokes aside, it's a unique drink for sure, with an odd, but strangely gratifying taste, although it's one of those "cult" drinks that's not particularly to everyone's tastes. Still, it is apparently one of the biggest selling drinks in the UK, running slightly behind Coke and Pepsi.

Flavourings (including Caffeine & Quinine)
Preservative (E211)
Colours (E110, E124)

Although you can buy it in a variety of different sizes, the most common in the UK seems to be the 500ml bottles. The drink itself is a very strong bright orange, with a blue wrapper on the front, ensuring it stands out from the rest of the drinks and is very eye catching. It is an incredibly refreshing drink on a hot Summer's day (like today), from simply swiping the bottle across your sweat-ridden forehead, to then downing a load of it in a big gulp. Extremely satisfying, and the odd, difficult to describe taste gives it a unique tinge that makes it very memorable.

On the downside, it is absolutely packed full of heaped teaspoons of sugar - there's well over half your daily allowance of sugar in one 500ml bottle, meaning they're pretty bad for you despite containing only 108 calories per bottle.

Summary: A sadly sugary but nice treat
