Advantages: Delicious!

Disadvantages: None!

Irn Bru...so good, they named it rather oddly. Move over Coca-Cola, step aside Fanta, Sprite doesn't even get a look in - Irn Bru is the king of fizzy drinks...or at least to Scottish people!

I'm a big fan of the bright orange stuff, although I reckon it's a product that must be similar to Marmite...you either love it, or hate it with a passion so deep you can't even stand to be in the same room as it. Not me however! Great stuff!

For anyone completely oblivious to the stuff, it's made by Barr's and is a multi-fruit flavoured carbonated drink, full of sugar like all good fizzy drinks are. It's been in production since 1901, and for those less adventurous, there is a diet version!

The ingredients of Irn Bru, much like Coca-Cola, are a long-time secret. Robin Barr, the chairman of the company, is one of only two people that know how it's made, and the other person can never travel on the same plane as Barr (this is not some kind of badly timed April Fools joke, it's true! - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/8066968.stm), but there are officially 32 different ingredients making up a unique tasting beverage.

Some official ingredients that are known include...
Carbonated water, sugar (carbohydrate), citric acid, flavourings (including caffeine and quinine), preservative (E211), colours (E110, E124), ammonium ferric citrate (0.002%)

It's pretty hard to put your finger on the taste, but thing a mass-fruity taste...like mixed Tizer and Fanta. Which may sound horrible, but it's not, it's Irn Bru!

In every 100 millilitres there are 43 calories, and 10.5 grams of carbohydrates, which emphasis the amount of sugar contained in the drink. Of course, sticking with the diet version will cut that out completely, but then again it wouldn't be 'made with girders'...as the advertising slogan once went!

At present, you can pick up a two-litre bottle of the good stuff in Sainsbury's for just a mere £1...yes, it is on offer!

Oh, and did you know it's the third highest selling fizzy drink in the whole of the UK, with only Coca-cola and Pepsi out selling it...see, Fanta and Sprite don't even get a look in!

Summary: A flavoursome fizzy drink
