Advantages: Tasted pretty darn good
Disadvantages: So fatening!
Tuesday night was my first time in over twenty years that’s a long time to go without I can tell you and yet it has been through my own choice!
I’ve been away on holiday for a few days and had a great time. I have a few ops in my mind and had wondered which to tackle first, when for better or worse one I had not previously considered leapt to the forefront of my mind and stayed there. So here goes.
On the final evening of my hols I went with my family, both adults and children to a Wild West show and with our meal we had a choice to make. What would I choose, coke or beer? Well any other night over the past twenty or more years I’d have picked coke but for some reason, holiday fever I suspect, I chose beer.
Now I wonder how many of you Dooyooers can imagine not tasting beer for weeks let alone years?
Now before I took the plunge I had a sip of a friends and decided the time had come to take the plunge. When I thought about the meal to come, a Wild West meal, I really couldn’t imagine those hunky cowboys swilling down Diet Coke!
So what did I make of my first beer in twenty years? Pretty darn good!
They wandered on by filling the glasses and it went well with my food. Now although I’ve not drunk beer I have supped of other intoxicating liquors over the years so the beer did not affect me. Although I’m sure there would be far more humour to be had if the case had been different, both here and for my family!
So now am I a beer convert? Well that would be taking it too far, but I don’t think it will be another twenty years till my next one. I can’t compare my beer with any other; in fact I have no idea what beer it was. Like many other things it has it’s place and unlike before I can see that it may be possible on a hot day I could choose a cold beer over my usual drinks. I will say that beer is different to other drinks, many will say superior,
I would not, but ask me again after a few more nights out and who knows. I may even join the many of whom it is said:
“Here ‘em, cheerin’ get the beer in!
