thehonesttruth Sainsbury's Biere D'abbaye De Belgique: ... for something a bit different to drink one day, I came across Sainsburys Biere D abbaye De Belgique onthe shelf, on special offer at £2 a bottle for 75 cl . The price normally for this is £2.89 . This bottle was plonled on the shelf right next to the Leffe, and I m not ashamed to say that by it being sat there, I thought AH, a Leffe syle own brand! . I was keen to try it - I love Leffe, but it is very expen...

... like to think of myself as a beer hunter. Not THE Beer Hunter (a certain, non-singing-n-dancing, non-baby-dangling Michael Jackson), Good Lord, no. More of a beer scavenger, I suppose. Wherever I am, I search out different beers to try...and there are so many. Anyway, long story short, here s one from France I tried earlier. The Lancelot brewery has been in business since 1990 in what used to be an old gold mine. They use traditional methods and natural ingredients to produce a range of bottle and cask-condition beers, including Telenn Du, which is Breton for Black Harp. This has nothing to do with any musical aspirations, or to pay homage to any members of the African...

pookie_rabbit Wold Top Brewery Merry Christmas
... then.. this is much more like it... First though let me first quickly remind you of my Christmas quest for a beer to help me fight my way through the turkey, sprouts, queens speech, Wizard of Oz (is it on this year?) and endless games of being cheated at Trivial Pursuit and Monopoly on December the 25th. So far I have tasted and tested Rosey Nosey and the somewhat better Wonkey Donkey. Both met some but not all of my criteria for a Christmas beer based on name or packaging, something that gives it that wintery difference and a bit of bite to see me through the big day. I have to be honest and say I actually wanted to like this beer as it s from what is the nearest...

... ve said it before and I ll say it again, France is not a country that one would immediately associate with beer, but they do brew it. Granted, not in the quantity of choice, and most definitely not in the quality, of the neighbouring countries of Belgium and Germany, but brew it they do. And since I was holidaying in France, it would have been churlish, not to say downright un-francophilical of me not to sample as many French beers as was humanly possible in that short space of time. (Always maintaining a responsible attitude to alcohol consumption at all times. OK kids?) So without further ado, let s discuss one of these Gallic imbibements, Jenlain Ambree Biere de Gard...
