I couldn't stay off the subject of beer for long, so here is my opinion on Black Sheep Ale. I'm a bit of a Real Ale fanatic, so I feel I am pretty well qualified to give my view of this very tasty beer. It's difficult to get a really good bottled ale and it's refreshing to say that I have found one here. The Black Sheep Brewery also produces Black Sheep Special Ale on draught. It's very rare to see it on draught where I live (except when there are Beer Festivals), but it often appears in the bottled format in pubs and in supermarkets. I am quite fortunate to live near a wine seller who also stocks a variety of good bottled beers. ... Read the complete review

Alright you lot, you asked for a straight op from me so here it is, no name-dropping, no jokes, just a straight op. Why is this ??? Well, take my last op for example, A fabulous little number entitled Adopt a Seal. Well, I had several of you contact me saying ?How much Sir??, and all that type of thing. WRONG. It was just a funny title that had me rolling on the floor laughing all day !! If anyone does happen to want to adopt a seal, a sheep or an iguana of course??. So, on with the serious stuff, the Black Sheep Brewery of Masham in the Yorkshire Dales. This company does have a website www. Blacksheepbrewery.com. Website indeed, at least it was ?penned? by ... Yes, I must tell others about this. I am not an ale drinker favouring more the grain in a good single malt whisky. I did drink ale in my youth when 19 to 25ish though and did enjoy the flavour. Nowdays I have the rare half pint only when I am wanting a quenching drink, usually Tetleys or something like that. Well, this weekend was spent at the Otley Black Sheep Folk Festival and a great do it was as well. On the Saturday night we went to the Black Horse pub venue to see a concert there and believe me it was full. We managed to get seats and before too long got thirsty as you do at folk festivals. Scotch wouldn't fit the bill because it was so ... Read the complete review

I didn't have to go to work today, or yesterday for that matter. A two day holiday taken at short notice. When is this country going to recognise the needs of parents with young children who develop rashes overnight? We have to babysit - I can't send him into school with a rash and Mrs O was meant to be standing in for a teacher today, even though she's technically unqualified to do so, being only a LSA and she usually has to take days off. So it was my turn. At least I get paid holiday, she doesn't. Anyway, that's all for a different op on a different day. To celebrate this enforced rest I thought I'd do the sensible thing and drink some ... Read the complete review

The name black sheep conjures up images of a rural heritage, possibly with a windswept moor in the background, and an individual, distinctive kind of product - one that's perhaps broken the mould. The Black Sheep brewery was set up by Paul Theakston, from the very famous Theakston brewing family (it's been in his blood for 5 generations). The fact that Theakstons still exists as a brewery, as well as Black Sheep, points to some kind of acrimonious parting of the ways; the fact that both breweries are to this day based in the small village of Masham in North Yorkshire (right on with the rural and the moors, then) points to a desire for both of them to ...
