Advantages: Nice golden beer

Disadvantages: Not a one, except you have to pay for it,

The famous Black Sheep brewery, has been there for generations, it was owned by the legendary Theakstons family, who still brew in the same village, this Black Sheep company, was the brainchild of a Mr Paul Theakston, who apparently was not happy about a takeover, so set up on his own. The old Theakstons being taken over in 1988 by the giant Scottish & Newcastle, although still allowing Theakstons to be run as a separate company. now you knw the origin of the strange "Black Sheep" of the family name.

the two breweries are still in Masham (pronounced Massam) in North Yorkshire. The Brewery do tours, and yes of course, tasting.

You can see all about the brewery and their heritage, by going on their website, see it here:-

Or, ir you are in the area, try going along and see for yourself. You will know when you are only a fewe miles away because of the lovely malty aroma. The company brew other beers too, but this one as won awards, as has the brewery itself.

OK I forgot to mention the beer, this is a light ale, with the bitter taste of the hops, and the light golden colour of the malted barley. It is below the 5% mark, so not one of the strongest brews, and it will have a frothy head, so any "Southern Softies" be aware.

The beer is mainly sold in bottles, although they do provide it in casks, mainly for beer fastivals and as guest beers at local outlets. I can recommend this to antone, you will find it at many outlets, especially supermarkets, and expect to pay just under Two Pounds for just under a pint bottle.

Summary: A light golden brew, very refreshing, not too strong.
