Advantages: brilliant, within budget and tastes like a wine 3 times its cost

Disadvantages: Buy more than one bottle because it goes fast!!!

I love wine. Of the rose variety. In my younger years I was very much a New Zealand white fan. However I have reluctantly found that with age, comes hangover. My post alcoholic encounters with marching bands, conversations with god and helicopter beds have increased dramatically with the years, effectively putting paid to my all night encounters with monsieur v blanc.
Thus ensued my switch to the loving arms of the brothers gallo, a gentle rose wine that returned me, once again to my pre hangover days. A whole bottle I could manage along with an accompanying meal.

Two weeks ago I had endured an extremely hot and sweaty saturday morning with two frustrated dalmations and even more frustrated owners. Having whipped them all into shape and about to head home I was happily presented with a bottle of wine and box of thorntons chocolates for my troubles. Immediately my first thought was "gosh that looks like an expensive bottle of wine" followed by "oh heck its red." imagining me handing my hard won prize to my housemate when i got in.

The bottle of wine was "Black Tower" and what a surprising revelation it was.
The presentation of the bottle is, as it's name would suggest, is of very narrow, tall, black glass. The effect of this is to make the wine look very expensive but surprisingly it retails in the region of £5 depending what shop you purchase it from (currently retailing in tesco at £4.08, the cheapest I have found)

The effect of the black glass is to make the wine look like a bottle of red, hence my immediate thoughts. My mood brightened considerably when i realised that it was a white. Allowing the wine and chocs to cool in the fridge until that evening I eagerly opened the bottle to go with my stir fry that i was in the process of cooking. The bottle was properly corked, not with rubber which is a trait that i particularly dislike. The presence of a cork only enhances the feeling of quality in this bottle.

I was amazed. The wine itself appeared a very light fluid in the glass and smelt wonderfully of grapes. On taking my first sip I remarked that it tasted exactly like welches white grape juice. This could be seen as a mark against quality by some but in all honesty it made the wine delightfully light and easy to drink. The wine did not feel thick in my mouth and the overall taste was delightfully crisp. That perfect middle ground between being a sweet wine and a dry wine that I find so appealing. The flavour stayed on my palette for some time after swallowing. I shared the bottle with my housemate who also agreed whole heartedly that this wine was, indeed, a discovery. The bottle that I was gifted was finished off swiftly. So much so that I happily pottered across the field to my local tesco and bought Black Tower mk2 which vanished almost as quickly.

This wine is great as a gift. BUT once you have tasted it try resisting the temptation of knowing you have a bottle of this in the house and not drinking it...

my overall recommendation would be to try it. occasional white wine drinkers and connoiseurs alike will not be disappointed. And it wont bust the budget either. BONUS!!!

Summary: Sorry messers gallo. you have competition for my money now!
