Advantages: Summer fruits and fresh and crisp taste

Disadvantages: One bottle just isn't enough!

Blossom Hill White Zinfandel

With a name like White Zinfandel you would be mistaken for thinking this wine was a white wine….but no it is in fact a lovely rosé wine.

It’s a medium rosé with the beautiful summery aromas of red berries…definitely strawberries and raspberries coming through with the first sniff! Underlying that is a faint watermelon smell too….all makes for the perfect summer barbecue wine. Which incidentally is what I had tonight…

Sold in a clear 75cl bottle with the Blossom Hill logo on the label the liquid is a salmon pink colour, but is transparent enough that you can read the back of the label.

Usually when first tasting a glass of wine I get a slight burning sensation in my throat but with this one there is none of that, instead I feel like I am drinking a lovely fruit juice with what seems to be a hint of alcohol….don’t be mistaken though as this wine does in fact contain 10% vol!
Whilst not being one of the higher alcohol contents that I have had this is still enough to get you a little light headed after a few glasses so beware, especially in this hot weather!

The taste of this wine as I said is likened to that of a summer fruit juice, The closest I can compare it with is a mixing a carton of strawberry ribena with a carton of apple juice and squeezing a few grapes into it…A slight crispness from the apple(?) not even sure if it actually contains apple but that’s a flavour that seems to come through to me. As I sip some more I can taste the raspberry although this could be my sense of smell taking over.

All in all this is a superb wine to have with barbecues, picnics or just for chilling out with after a nice bath and relaxing on the sofa which is what I intend to do with the rest of the bottle tonight!

I highly recommend this 2004 wine which was bought from my local corner shop on a 3 for £10 offer… but is available from Supermarkets and all good off licences for around £3.99 a bottle.

This wine is very similar in taste and colour to my all time favourite Julio Gallo White Zinfandel….and is a close second to that one!

Thanks for reading (hic)

Summary: A lovely summer wine!

As I'm a bit of a girl, I've got a taste for Rose wine, I have to say. Perfect for the summer.

I would have liked some info on where the wine comes from, the area and the winery. You only say that it's similar to a Gallo wine, what does that mean? Is it also from Gallo?

Shouldn 't we drink European wine first? There's so much wonderful wine waiting for you in France, Italy, Spain, Germany . . .
