Advantages: An ok drink, will perk you up
Disadvantages: It doesn't taste of much
I purchased this coffee after having tried the instant hazelnut and also the filter vanilla flavoured varieties of this coffee and enjoying them. What can I say, I like my coffee! I like it dark and potent after dinner, or smooth and creamy in the afternoon, but generally over in the States had come to take for granted the availability of flavoured coffee on tap, so jump at the chance to have it here when I can.
Double chocolate flavoured coffee brings to mind mocha, yum! Upon opening this and giving it a good sniff, it smells...vaguely cocoa-esque? Not very pungent. Ah well, maybe it will taste better than it smells.
After adding sufficient milk to this (sorry, I only drink espresso black, instant black coffee is yeuch!), I inhale again and sip. It is...not making a strong impression. It is not particularly coffee tasting, nor is the "double chocolate" of the title particularly noticeable. It is pleasant enough, smooth and vaguely chocolate-y but nothing to make me go "Mmmm".
It has a palatable enough flavour to make me continue drinking it but it is nowhere near as nice as the hazelnut or vanilla flavours. There are a few undissolved granules which are a bit tangy/crunchy but that doesn't make it any nicer! I don't think I will bother with it again, I get a much nicer mocha coffee taste from other drinks I have tried. I would recommend trying the other varieties however as they have been much more flavourful.
This coffee is sold in jars of 50g and is usually around £2 so it is quite dear and definitely more of a treat coffee than an everyday one. I bought mine at Boots on a whim but have purchased the brand in coffee retailers as well. It is calorie free so a good drink to have for any slimmers looking for a flavoured coffee.
Summary: A weak flavour from a normally flavourful brand
