Advantages: Not the cheapest ingredient
Disadvantages: Not found in your local offy
If you love cocktails and can't afford to go out to drink them every night, you're going to want to start making them at home, and to do this you will need some rather arcane ingredients, like Bols Creme De Cacao.
Creme De Cacao comes in brown and white and is chocolate flavoured liquor, ideal for espresso martinis for example. It's not easily avaliable and you may have to search online for it- be prepared to spend about £19-£21 a bottle. Yes, this is a lot but if you are making cocktails at home they may as well be as nice as the ones you buy in bars! And even if you buy more expensive ingredients they are still going to be cheaper. The brown version is more of a dark chocolate/cocoa flavour and the white version is more like milk chocolate. The white version does not taste like white chocolate, as I have read in other reviews!
I have tried the white and brown versions and although they are different you don't need to buy both bottles. I prefered the brown type as it seems to be less sweet. I can definately see a difference between the Bols version and other cheaper versions. Bols is smoother and doesn't catch your throat, plus it smells divine, like baking, chocolate and cinnamon. The bottle is also very pretty and you wouldn't be ashamed to have it in your kitchen! The packaging and labelling do mark out Bols as a high end product. It is a shame it is not more widely avaliable.
Overall, Bols Creme De Cacao is lovely and smooth- not too sweet, which is nice. It can't be drunk alone [at least I wouldn't recommend it] but as a cocktail ingredient I can't imagine you will find better. Very highly recommended!
Summary: Perfect for parties!
