Advantages: Exclusivity (produce of London)
Disadvantages: Not a mixer ?
Bombay Sapphire royalty amongst other English distilled Gins. The dry gin is distilled from 100% grain spirit from a 1761 recipe. And sold at 40% proof by vol.
THE PROCESS
The incomparable taste of Bombay Sapphire is the result of ten carefully selected botanical ingredients coupled with a unique distillation process distillation process. Unlike some gins, which “boil” their botanicals together with the spirit, Bombay sapphire distils its spirit slow. The spirit vapour from the distillation then gently passes through a copper basket containing the botanicals. This infuses the subtle aromatic flavour from each of the ten botanicals into the spirit for a cleaner, crisper, more botanical taste.

THE INGREDIENTS include almonds, lemon peel, and liquorice from Spain. Juniper berries, Oris root from Italy, Angelica from Saxony, Coriander seeds from Morocco, Cassia bark from Indo - China, Cubeb berries from Java.
THE EXPERIENCE
AROMA very distinctive, the smell of coriander, citrus - lemon.
TASTE - flavour at the back of the throat to strong and full of spirit almost like vodka. You can catch the juniper at the end of the taste experience.
If you are not careful you can really spoil the subtlety of the flavour by in correct choice of mixer, still mineral water might be an acquired taste, neat it is a little too strong. If you want to mix gin with a stronger flavour (martini, coke etc) try a cheaper gin.
***MY OPINION***
Rather a more exclusive taste than your average gin. this is reflected in the price, try to remember this when you try it...keep it for special occasions, not for everyday use.
Marketed by the Bombay Spirit’s company London W18 5HH. England.
Summary: A cut above the rest

- 20/02/06 I like this, but am just as happy with cheaper versions. Mind you I'm on the Grey Goose currently, which is lovely. |
