Bottle Green Elderflower Cordial:

For me nothing tastes like summer more than Elderflower Cordial. I can remember having my first glass at the 'North Somerset Show', (an agricultural show surprisingly enough in North Somerset), when I was about seven. It was the most delicious thing I had ever tasted!

Years later I discovered Bottle Green Elderflower Cordial, (they also do a presse but it isn't as nice), and I occasionally treat myself to a bottle.
The Bottle Green Cordial comes in a beautiful, conical, green glass bottle that holds 500ml. It is a really lovely bottle to look at with a beautiful picture of an elderflower on the front. Being glass it's easily recyclable if you decide not to re-use it. I use my empty bottles, (after sterilisation), to make flavoured oils and vodkas because they are pretty and the green glass protects the contents from the light, (that's why wine, beer and medications usually come in coloured glass or plastic containers). The labels are easy to remove as well.

500ml of cordial makes 6.5 litres of drink diluted with one part cordial and twelve parts water. For me this makes the drink the perfect strength as any stronger and it would be too sweet but then I generally like cordial and squash quite weak. You can use hot or cold, fizzy or still water to make up the cordial and they all provide a lovely refreshing drink.

Bottle Green Elderflower Cordial contains Sugar, Cotswold Spring Water, Elderflowers, Citric Acid and Sulphur Dioxide which is a preservative. Bottle Green cordials contain no artificial colours, flavourings or sweeteners.
100ml of diluted drink, (made using the 1:12 ratio), contains 22Kcal and 5.6g of carbohydrates, (all sugar). That's less sugar than most fruit juices, (about half as much), and only .6g per 100ml more than the British Heart Foundation says is "a little" making it an ideal drink for those with heart problems or people on a diet.

It's really hard to describe the taste of Elderflower cordial; it's sweet and floral with a slight citrus note. I think it tastes like something fairies would drink! Lol! I absolutely adore the flavour, (the cordial tastes much better than the pre-made elderflower drinks in my opinion), and Bottle Green is the best brand I have ever tried. I can imagine though that it's one of those 'love it or hate it' things. I would definitely recommend you try it if you haven't already as it may just be the most delicious and refreshing things you have ever tasted!

A bottle costs £2.82 from Tesco which is quite expensive but oh so worth it! If I see it on offer I always buy a couple of bottles. It's available in most supermarkets now along with a few other varieties of Bottle Green cordials like blueberry.
