Advantages: Tastes great
Disadvantages: None
I'd been meaning to try this cordial for ages as I thought it sounded delicious, so when I saw it on offer at £2.12 in Morrisons instead of the usual £2.82 I thought it would be a good time to give it a go.
It comes in a tall green glass bottle with a screw on lid. The screw cap is easy enough to open and it doens't pose any problems. The price is for a 500ml bottle, which it says makes 6.5 litres of the drink.
It can be made hot or cold, but I'm not a fan of cold cordials, I'd rather just have a drink of water, so I always have mine hot. I just pour a little into a mug and and fill it with boiling water. Obviously how much to use depends on personal taste, but I find that I don't need to use a lot of it to get it as strong as I like.
As soon as you pour the water in you're hit by a strong whiff of ginger, but then it disappears just as quickly. The actual taste of the cordial is a little sweeter than I had expected, but still the predominant taste is the ginger. It's not too strong a ginger taste, and it doesn't burn as some can, but you still get that nice warm feeling in the back of your throat when you drink it.
I find this to be a very refreshing drink which makes a lovely alternative to the usual hot drinks like tea and coffee, and I really enjoy drinking it.
Of course one of the great things about this cordial is that it's much better for you than a lot of drinks. 100ml of cordial diluted 1 to 12 gives you only 22 calories and 5.6g of sugar. So if you're someone who likes your drinks sweet just compare that to the amount of sugar you put in your tea or coffee! This is a nice sweet drink without being too loaded with sugar.
I am so glad I bought this, it is as delicious as I'd expected it to be and it has now become a must have item for me. I am also looking forward to trying some other flavours!
Summary: Very tasty and not too bad for you

- 24/05/09 I'd be a bit too scared I'd feel like I was drinking my favourite lemongrass and ginger handwash! Sounds lovely, though :) |
