Advantages: cool bottle

Disadvantages: taste, taint, and what the hell was that white stuff?

Bottled water is still something I don't see the point in, Volvic was just bottle water that seemed like it was from the tap, Evian was just terrible and made me thirsty. I thought I was still missing something so thought third time lucky and tried to some Drench. Made by Britvic, the second largest distributor of soft drinks in the UK (only behind Coca-Cola), their product this time is head to head with Danome. Britvic are best known as being the people in Britain who sell Tango and Pepsi (under license from Pepsi Co) as well as some water products (such as this).

Drench comes in a rather cool bottle, with 750 ml of water in it (making it 50% bigger than the previous 2 bottles I'd had). The bottle top was rather confusing, with a tab that had to be found wna dripped off before the lid would open, to reveal a quite clever solid blue squirty hose type thing. It looked like a futuristic sports bottle. The bottles body also has the plastic to look like the bottle is over full and running down the side, a nice effect and probably better than the Evian mountain design.

Anyway on to the wet stuff, I was happy after the first mouthful that I wasn't experience any extra dehydrating effects as was the problem with Evian which made me feel thirstier. In fact for the first half of the bottle it was what was to be expected, a plain colourless liquid with no odour or taste. Perfect as far as water seems to go as long as it hydrates, which this did...
Sadly as I got down the bottle I started to to taste a rather dirty taste, a tainted soil like taste that was quite off putting, this started with about ½ the bottle left (I don't know if your meant to shake the bottle before use). The taste had suddenly gone from nothing to being really quite disgusting and nasty tasting, on further inspection when this started, I took a closer look at the bottle and could see it wasn't as clear as it should have been. There was little white particles in it in the bottom part of the bottle, floating about, they were solid and not very appetising if truth be told, I'm unsure if they were meant to be there (something left over from the spring) or whether it was just a contaminated bottle...but as I'm too miserable to buy a new one I finished it off like a trooper.

Whilst Volvic is taken from a Volcanic spring (I think in France) Drench if off't Yorkshire 'ills in England. The drink is bottled at it's source (thus the white things?) in Huddersfield (or should it be 'uddersfield) and is one of the few cases, where the French beat us in a product.
