So my day has seen me (again) visiting my local branch of B+M and feeding my my quench for liquid (being a debt collector is surprisingly dehydrating) . I stocked up with a few cans of stuff for then evening (I finish at 9, us debt collectors have jobs almost as stupid as my team coach who asked "What's the date 10 days from today, as I know today's the 6th?"). As is always the case in B+M the price was reduced on what you'd usually expect for a can of Pepsi. This costing a mere 25p compared to the normal RRP that seems to be nearer 60p (though I was informed last night that Aldi are currently selling 4 for £1) .

So Pepsi the great rival to Coca-cola the coke drinks market, who as a brand everyone knows of was created in the 1880's by Caleb Bradham (a pharmacist) and was trademarked in 1903, with sales of the drink from the later 1890's. The company out grew the pharmacy of Bradham and he was forced into producing the product (a syrup) from a warehouse, as sales rocketed through the roof. Though in 1931 the trading company seized and it's assests were sold as it went bankrupt, and Roy C. Megargel bought the trademarks. Megargel also too the company to bankruptcy in 1939 before the right were again offloaded and picked up by Loft Inc. who used the recipe as Coke wouldn't let the president (Charles Guth) have a discount. The drink has ever since been seen as the rival to coca cola, though this actually started with a radio advertising campaign in 1936 which was a direct show at the fact it was 1/2w the price of the Coke alternative.

So now you've had your history lesson back to my day, I bought a 330 ml can though it is available in a variety of sizes and either in cans or plastic bottles (upto 2 litres) as well as various types such as diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max. This is just the normal Pepsi however, the bog standard version.

Now lets get onto the actual review (which is written as a fight report...I was bored at work), the challenger to the championship, dressed in blue with a silver shiny trim at about 4 inches and coming in at 330ml to the champion in the red with white trim Coke also weighing in at 330ml. The fight for dominance in the coke market in a 3 round contest, based on flavour, drinkability and colour.

By an accidental virtue Coke like most modern champions such as Oscar de La Hoya and Sugar Ray Leonard has an advantage, the Pepsi I had was "room warmed". As like I said I was in an office and it had warmed through.

Ding ding and we're off the first round is based on taste, the Pepsi tastes familiar and sweet which is nice. However the taste seems quite uninspiring and insipid in comparison to coke, this may be down to the advantage of the Pepsi being warm(or could be due to the fact it was only 25p so maybe out of date). However this round feels like a knock down round in favour of Coke.

10-8 Coke

The feel (drinkability) in your mouth is slightly syruppy, and very sweet infact the can contains 40% your RDA sugars (don't have it with a double decker or that's 70+%). However the drink doesn't feel overly gassy and thankfully doesn't try to escape out of your nose. This one seems a close be definite round to Pepsi.

9-10 Pepsi

The colours in both are syruppy rich dark brown (as far as you can see from the top of the can before they turn to black in the shadows of the top of the can). This round I need to call a draw.

10-10

So overall coke wins by a tastes length, though Pepsi did put up a close and tough fight.

Away from the actual drink the the shiny can is probably better than the coke can which is rid with a white trim, but sadly stylish trunks never won anyone a fight. The ingredients in a can of Pepsi include:
high fructose corn syrup
sugar
colorings
phosphoric acid
caffeine
citric acid
natural flavors (no idea, I threw my can away and googled these)

Overall I'd say if you can get a can for 25p go for it, but at 50 it's extortion.

Summary: Worth 25p..
