A tasty and refreshing drink with natural ingredients
Member Name: LillyAnnJones
Advantages: Tasty, natural, nice bottle, rejuvinating
Disadvantages: Sometimes expensive
I am sometimes in need of a drink that will give me a boost and refresh me. Most energy drinks rely on high caffeine like Red Bull or high sugar like Lucozade. While these do give energy they also have some bad effects, for that reason I try not to use them too much. This doesn't market itself as an energy drink really, it says 'rejuvenation' on the front which is what I am looking for when I drink this.
Purdeys is available to buy in health food shops like Holland and Barrett along with local health food shops, supermarkets and it's also now available in shops like the 99p Shop and B&M bargains. The price varies quite a lot, I think it's around 90p in B&M bargains and £1.70 in Holland and Barrett although there are sometimes special offers.
The drink comes in a thick, glass bottle, the bottle is silver so it stands out from other drinks. 'PURDEYS' is printed on the front along with the nutritional infomartion on the back and a description of the drink on the front. The packing is simple but good looking too. The lid is made from silver coloured metal. I like the fact that it comes in a glass bottle, it makes it feel a bit more special and some people don't like drinking from plastic. The bottle is 330ml which is about the same size as a can of coke. The bottle looks bigger than a drinks can but it is made from thick glass so it could be a bit deceptive.
Instead of containing loads of caffeine or sugar, this has fruit juices and vitamins.
The ingredients are;
Fruit Juices from Concentrate 57% (Grape, Apple), Carbonated Spring Water (42%), Natural Flavourings including Botanical Extracts (Damiana and Chinese Ginseng), Citric Acid, Vitamins (C, Niacin, B6, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Folacin, B12), Glucose.
This doesn't contain any artificial sweeteners or caffeine which is great and sets it apart from a lot of the other drinks out there. It also contains some vitamins so there are health benefits to drinking this. It also contains one of your five a day!
The drink itself is slightly sparkling which is nice, it's gentle and mild instead of fizzy. The taste is actually quite hard to describe but I really like it. Over half of the drink is made from fruit juices but it isn't a particularly fruity tasting drink. It claims to contain one of your five a day but it really doesn't taste like you're drinking fruit juice, there are different tastes in this drink which really go well together. I can taste the ginseng because I've tried it before in other drinks. The ginseng adds some warmth and tang to the drink. It isn't a really sweet drink but you can taste some fruitiness. It tastes nice and fresh, it's a refreshing drink and although it's hard for me to describe the taste, I do really like it. I love how it doesn't taste artificial, this is quite important to me because a lot of the time in the more 'healthy' drinks, they use artificial sweeteners which taste quite strange to me.
As for the 'rejuvenation' effects, this drink does give me a little lift and makes me feel refreshed. It's not the same effect as coffee or red bull, it's more gentle, it's not something that could keep me awake at night. I think rejuvenated is the right word to describe the effects of this drink.
