Advantages: Great taste, unique variety

Disadvantages: Not as refined as juice

I'm not exactly a big fan of squash drinks, but I did recently get a chance to try Robinson's Fruit and Barley range of squash drinks, and although it's not something I'd drink a lot, it is a rather rich and textured type of soft drink, which does a service for the reputation of squash drinks, and of course, it's a nice change from the regular squash flavours, like orange and apple.

This range has a number of flavours, including Pink Grapefruit, and my personal favourite - Tropical. The bottles contain a litre of squash, and I tend to be quite generous with my pouring, so I tend to get about 10-12 glasses out of each bottle. I like them quite strong, but still, it does little to impact your health, as a recommended 250ml serving is a whopping 7 calories, meaning even if you "indulge" by making it very strong, you're still not going to need to watch how much you have, which is more than can be said for so many other drinks.

My only advice to ensure that you get a satisfactory drink is to make sure that you run the tap for about 10 seconds before you add the water, because this isn't something that lends itself well to being consumed warm, much like beer and Coke. If temperate, these can be extremely refreshing Summer drinks that are obviously going to be a lot more cost effective than continually buying juice drinks and other thirst-quenchers if you're on a tight budget.

These bottles go for about £1 each, although you can also find tonnes of buy one get one free offers if you look around in supermarkets. Considering the mileage you'll get out of even just one bottle, it's a steal really, although obviously isn't going to taste as fresh and refined as a carton of juice.

Summary: A very good squash
