Advantages: Nice flavour, refreshing. Great for Ice Lollies
Disadvantages: Difficult to justify the extra cost that the robinsons name has.
My name is Valve and I'm a squash drinker.
I drink a lot of squash, between my girlfriend and I we get through three 2 litre bottles of squash in about 4 days. I don't drink hot drinks such as tea or coffee and I'm rather particular about drinking water, so most of the time I drink squash.
In my time I have consumed so many different varieties of squash, I couldn't possibly remember them all. I do howerver distinctly remember being a member of the Kia-ora club when I was much younger. Like I said, I drink squash!!!
For quite some time now one of my favourite flavours has been summer fruits. I was first introduced to it when I was about 15 or so, having grown up on the good old orange squash and the like (which I must say I am now rediscovering and really enjoying). I had of course tried apple and blackcurrant and the like bu summer fruits was new to me. At first I was a little unsure of it as it didn't seem to have a distinct flacour that you could pick out and say "that tastes of..." instead it was just a sweet and quite sickly flavour. It soon grew on me though and before long I was a fan of the unusualness and the sweetness.
I believe the first variety of Summer Fruits squash I tried was the barley variety, which these days I actually find a little too sweet so I tend to stay away from them and stick with more traditional squashes like this and always with no added sugar.
The robinsons variant of Summer Fruits is a good quality squash, which is well flavoured and unlike some cheaper squashes doesn't leave a sticky or starchy residue in the mouth after drinking which makes it nice and refreshing.
One of the beauties of this drink is that unlike some squashes you can vary the strength of the dilution to give a differing degree of sweetness but unless you make it really really weak, it will still taste nice. Try that with a basic orange juice and it more often than not will become just a vague flavour in the water.
This is also very nice when made into Ice Lollies, though you do have to be a little careful about the strength you make it. You'll need it a little stronger than you would if you were drinking it but if you make it too strong it can be a bit too potent.
My only gripe about Robinsons drinks is the price, when compared to a supermarkets own brand squash they are really quite expensive, and to be honest having drunk as much squash as I have, it's hard to find much difference between this and a cheaper variant such as Morrisons Own Brand Summer Fruits. If you compare it to a real budget version, yes, the robinsons will win hands down as cheaper squashes often leave that horrid sticky/starchy residue which this does not. But when compared to the Morrisons, I would have to say that there is so little difference it's very hard to justify the additional cost.
Overall, a lovely refreshing squash of good quality but is it worth the extra money you pat for the name?
Summary: Very nice but maybe try comparing with an own brand version as you may not notice much difference...
