Advantages: bottle lasts ages, different flavours

Disadvantages: very sweet, not refreshing

When it comes to choosing a fruit squash, I usually go for the basic flavours - orange, lemon and maybe an apple and blackcurrant. This is because I find these most refreshing and, well, I'm not that adventurous really. I have in recent years, however, branched out into supermarket own brands and tried some of their different flavours and enjoyed these. Therefore when I saw an offer on Robinson's squashes in my local supermarket, I thought I'd give the summer fruits variety a try.

I usually only but branded squashes when they are available on offer as I find the supermarkets own versions cheaper and just as palatable, so it saves me a few pennies to buy these. For example, I bought a 3 litre bottle of this on offer at £2, which I thought was a good deal - it is usually priced at £3.09. The squash is also available in a smaller bottle size of 1 litre.

The squash comes in a simple plastic bottle with the Robinson's label on it's front and a screw cap - pretty standard packaging for squashes! It is a clear deep red-purple colour. The flavours in this particular squash are apple, cherry, strawberry and raspberry - very much fruits of the summer, hence the name! As implied in the name, there are no added sugars but it is also free from artificial colours and flavours and made using real fruit juices. You simply pour the desired amount into your glass and dilute with water.

Now, I find this squash quite strong and sweet and like to make it up quite weak so use only a little of the concentrate to quite a bit of water. This is not generally how I like my squash, but I find this one so strong that it's the best way for me. I don't mind as this means that a bottle lasts me even longer than usual! I make mine up so that the water just has a very slight pink tint, but others I know like it much stronger so it almost looks like a glass of apple and blackcurrant squash. As I mention, I find this quite sweet and would say that it would not be to everyone's tastes. I cannot really taste the apple, it tastes much more of the strawberries and cherries. These are fruits that I like but am unsure how they translate into a squash in this instance. I certainly don't find the drink particularly refreshing and it is not a choice I would make to quench my thirst. It is pleasant to drink now and then but a little too sweet for regular consumption.

Summary: summery drink
