Advantages: Low in calories and sugar

Disadvantages: Tastes syntetic and quite flavourless.

I have spoken before of my state of terminal diet, which has recently been increased as I am getting hitched in just two short months. It's this state of diet which had me trawling the shelves for something delicious and low in calories to replace the massive void left in my life now I have kissed goodbye to such fatty but wonderful treats such as Fanta Fruit Twist, and Tango Orange. I was looking for something different, and was drawn in both by the multi-buy special offer and the bright orange label of 'No Added Sugar' Tango Citrus.

Was my craving satisfied? Was this a true love to last me until my wedding? Read on to find out.

~ Appearance

As with all Tango products, this bottle is easily spotted by the trademark 'Tango' logo. Sporting the new 'sexier' orange on the front and a silver background to distinguish it from its sugar-laden brother, the appearance of the bottle is quite pleasing. Bright and colourful, with lots of yellow and orange tones on the logo.

I understand this product is also available in cans and smaller bottles, but on this occasion I brought the larger 2 litre bottle

~ Taste

I must admit, I was disappointed with the taste. With a name like 'Citrus', you expect something with a little bit of a kick, or a sour buzz. However, the taste left you with a distinctly lacking rush. Tangy, but gentle and a little too lemony for my tastes. Whereas you often get a aspartame kick from the low sugar ranges, this drink really felt like something was lacking.

Don't get me wrong, it's drinkable. But if you like your bitter lemons or tonic, you might be disappointed by the lacklustre finish of this drink. It's hard to eloquent, but it just lacks oomph, and ends up tasting like a watered down full fat drink, rather than a tasty treat in it's own right.

~ Content

You can't fault the drink for it's health credentials though, at 3 calories per 100ml, Trace Fat and Trace Calories. Your not going to get chubby on this one, thought the aspartame may kill your teeth first.

~ Overall

I'm sad to say I'm really not a fan of this one. Rather than being refreshing and clean, it takes synthetic and bland. I cannot comment on the full sugar version, but for a low calorie treat, I would not recommend this one. Real shame, as Tango tend to do some lovely flavours, but they haven't cornered the market with this one. Thumbs down from me :(

~ Available at

I have seen this tango at Sainsburies and Tescos, so if you do want to give it a go for yourself it would be available at most supermarkets. I brought the bottle on special offer 2 for £2 from Tescos, but I beleive the usual price is around £1.30. I have a feeling the extra bottle will be kicking about in my cupboard for some time to come.

Summary: Certainly not my favourite low-calorie soft drink

Asparatame is evil stuff, it will do more than rot your teeth. I hate diet drinks.
