Broughton Ales Ltd is a small family-owned brewery founded by David Younger, a descendant of the George Younger brewing family of Alloa, in 1980. It is situated in the pretty little village of Broughton (Brote-un), near Biggar in the Scottish Borders. It was one of the first of the new generation of Scottish breweries. This is an area of Scotland which is rich in history and famous for its Border Keeps and Castles which date back to the 13th and 14th centuries. In those days, Ale Wives would have brewed the beers which form the basis for today's recipes which are utilized at the Broughton brewery.
