Advantages: Tasty, Available everywhere, Doesn't cause hangover
Disadvantages: Can be pricey
Whhasssup! Not a very original, title for a Budweiser opinion but hey, their adverts are great aren’t they! I normally drink Budweiser (commonly known as Bud) wherever I go. I was originally a Fosters Ice girl but over time (and a few bottles) I find that it can become quite sickly. Budweiser is different though as to me, it does not have the overly strong taste of Stella or the weaker strength of some other bottled beers. As with all lagers / beers Bud is best served chilled. I tend to drink Bottles of Bud in pubs (presently £1.59 in Moons/Wetherspoons) or from a four pack. Yesterday I bought a pack of 4 x 440ml cans from my local BP Petrol Station for £5.16. Slightly more expensive than normal but that’s probably because of where I bought it. One thing that I especially like about the Budweiser brand is that it is known worldwide and is generally my safe bet when abroad. Unlike McDonalds that you can visit overseas and not even recognise the taste of the food, Budweiser tastes the same to me wherever I am. The downside of this can be that it is often very highly priced and I have been known to pay about £4.00 for a bottle in some nightclubs. Budweiser are the official sponsors of the 2002 FIFA World Cup. My four pack had a notice on it telling me when and where the matches were going to be – it took me ages to realise they were even talking about football! You see I’ve a collection of Foster’s F1sponsorship cans so footie sponsoring is a bit alien to me! They also support the Regus London Film Festival and run their own Bud House Parties. I’ve not been to the latter but based on my past experience could imagine it’s an excuse to charge extortionate prices. Now for the technical bits: According to the can the alcohol content is 5% Vol. Budweiser Stag Brewing Company Ltd, London brews the beer and guarantee ‘Brewery Fresh Taste’ if drunk within 1
80 days. Presumably they mean within 180 days of brewing and not opening the can! But they do not specify. This matter could always be taken up with their Consumer Department based in Richmond I suppose. The bottom of my cans that were bought yesterday state they are best before 28 March 2002 and were born 28 September 2001 so I have drunk them within the 180day best taste guarantee. I know this is probably just a gimmick and I can’t really comment on whether or not there is a change in taste after the 180days as a can rarely lasts a long time in my house. The quote from the distinctive red, white and blue can says “ Budweiser, King of Beers – This is the famous Budweiser beer. We know of no brand produced by any other brewer which costs so much to brew and age. Our excellent Beechwood Aging produces a taste, a smoothness and a drinkability you will find in no other beer at any price” Probably a lot of old bumph! Their web site at www.budweiser.com contains lots of information about Bud Quality, Bud Life, Bud Sports and Bud Fun. The Bud Quality section tells us the history of the beer as well as information on quality, the busch family and a brewery tour. This is the international site and has links to specific countries, the UK being one. One thing I found particularly guarded is that your have to insert your date of birth to enter due to age restrictions in the US of 21. I am less likely to get a hangover from drinking Budweiser than Stella so it tends to be my drink of choice. Overall Budweiser gives me the impression of a community aware company who produce excellent beer and excellent adverts. I am unlikely to change my favourite tipple and in fact I’m shortly off to sample some more as a lunchtime drink with my Mum and Dad!

- 07/01/02 Agree with you that this is less likely to give a hangover than Stella, but I find Budweiser tastes flat and weak!
BTW don't suppose you know how to find out about their future Bud House Parties? I missed the last one due to an inconveniently early shift the next morning! |
