Advantages: Bottle is useful, water tastes fine

Disadvantages: Waste

Normally I'm not a big fan of bottled water because of the waste. However, I recently picked up a pack of six bottles of Buxton water to take to work - and I ended up being very glad I did when I got flu!

The Buxton bottles are no longer a straight up and down shape - they curve in slightly and are taller (or is it my imagination?) to make it look as if you get more for your money. Or maybe it's to look a bit different from other brands; there's only so much you can do with a transparent plastic bottle!

The plastic of the bottle seems to be cheaper, or at least thinner, than other brands, and I find I can only get a few reuses out of them. I know all that stuff about not reusing these bottles at all, and I have to say it doesn't seem that hygenic to reuse this particular brand very much.

The bottle has a plastic screw cap to secure it, and I've never had any problems with this.

The taste of the water itself is, unsurprisingly, not that different from 'regular' water. In fact, if you filtered some tap water, you'd be hard pressed to taste a difference. It's very 'neutral' tasting. Personally, I find the bottle more convenient than the water, so I should really invest in something more long term and save my money.

I personally can't taste any difference between this and filtered tap water, and if you're lucky enough to live in a soft water area where they don't pump it full of bleach, chlorine or similar, you probably wouldn't notice any difference at all.

I also remember reading somewhere that it takes 10 litres of water to make 1 litre of bottled water, which sounds like a massive waste to me. I don't buy into all this marketing rubbish about where it's sourced, so for me this water is nothing special and I need to stop being lazy and invest in a sports bottle or flask!

Summary: Is it really worth paying for bottled water?
