“ Manufacturer: Cadbury. Bournvita Malted chocolate Drink. The relaxing bedtime drink made with wholesome ingredients „
Greetings to Bournvita lovers everywhere. I read these reviews a few months ago and shared the feelings of loss and frustration that many of you describe. You might now have discovered the answer. If not, allow me to enlighten you. Recently while on holiday, we visited a Sainsburys. As always, I paused by the hot milk drink shelves in the vain hope of finding that it had miraculously reappeared. No such luck! Then my eye was drawn to a different carton describing itself as a malted chocolate drink. Out of curiosity I picked it up - and immediately noticed a familiar rattle! My excitement grew as I read the description and thought it sounded just like my old friend Bournvita - so I bought it! As soon as I got home I opened it and tasted some dry (always a treat after spooning some onto the hot milk!) I made the drink and, lo and behold, I realised I had in my mug - yes, Bournvita, but under a different name - Milo. (And a different manufacturer) Over the last few years I have tried the other hot milk chocolate drinks available but nothing had the same rich, smooth, but not overly sweet taste.
Why did no-one tell us? The only place we have found it is in Sainsburys, and believe me, we have looked hard. As I said, you might already know, but I had to pass on the good news to someone. So enjoy, and spread the word. The waiting is over!
BRING BACK BOURNVITA
What has happened to Bournvita?
The drink that makes one's sleep much sweeter.
I have been all over town
Only to be met with frown
No-one seems to know just why
Assistants look, give up, and sigh.
Young folk, old folk, none can sleep
Without their nightly Bournvita treat.
The credit crunch keeps us awake
We need our sleep for goodness sake.
Help this restless nation sleep
Our sanity we need to keep.
Put Bournvita back in shops
Not all of us like wine and hops.
Let our sleep drown out the snores
Of husbands who, think we are bores
Who like our nightly chocolate drink
Some of us can't get a wink.
For many years our nightly sup
Has been Bournvita in a cup
Drinking tea and counting sheep
Doesn't help us get a peep.
Let this nation sleep again
When we've prayed and said "Amen."
- I was told last winter by Cadburys that Bournvita Light had been discontinued, only to find it the following week in our local POUNDLAND shop!! And it was no longer in glass jars, but in a lightweight plastic container!! So much for Cadburys product knowledge!!- However, I have not seen it in POUNDLAND this winter, unfortunately, and will have to switch to Ovaltine Light, which is in a smaller container and more expensive - errrgghh!!- By the way, there is some for sale on e-Bay, but the postage makes it unviable.
We have searched all 3 main supermarkets in Market Harborough :Sainsbury,Tesco and Coopand also Morrissons in Corby to no avail. We have tried a rival product Choc.Ovaltine but would rather Cadbury's respond in a proper business manner ,make an announcement in the media as to what the long term strategy is or are their admen playing a game with what remains a sought after and still popular product.?
For years and years my favourite bedtime drink was Cadbury Bournvita Malted Chocolate Drink, a delicious chocolaty drink that had a very smooth malty taste to it and really did help me relax and prepare for a good night's sleep.
All of a sudden I found this drink very hard to find and had to hunt the shops to find one that sold it, then eventually I gave up looking for it because I was unable to find it anywhere.
Recently it has come back on the scene in certain shops and although the jar it came in has turned to plastic the delicious drink is still the same.
It works like any other drinking chocolate; you just put a spoonful or two dependant on taste into a mug then add boiling water. It can be enjoyed at any time of the day or night but it is better as a get to sleep method and actually works unlike many so called night time drinks.
At £1.80 per jar this stuff is a bit expensive but if you try it and enjoy it as much as I do then you will not mind paying it one bit.
I have just read another person's review saying how they had been looking for this bedtime drink and now realise this has been discontinued, I cannot understand Cadbury's reasoning, I would have thought it was one of the most loved night time drinks on the market. I do hope the company has a re think.
I too was desparate for Bournvita. But here in Ireland I found I can get it from ...wait for it... Bombay Bazaar, imported all the way from India. It is a mad, mad world. Please, Cadbury's start selling it in Britain and Ireland again.Meanwhile, I have a blissful bedtime drink again. I suggest you in England look in Indian shops.
My husband and I have searched the whole of Somerset for Bournvita Chocolate Drink but have been unable to buy any. We do not want a light version as we prefer to have a good wholesome drink without added artifical sweeteners that tastes so much better. So come on Cadburys bring Bournvita back into our shops and then we can once again look forward to enjoying our evening drink and a good night's rest.
I too have only recently discovered that I cannot purchase the drink I have enjoyed for over 40 years. I have emailed Cadbury's to ask why. Is someone out there prepared to start a "Bring Back Bournvita" campaign? If so, count me in. Mark from Swansea, Wales.
My family have been drinking Bournvita for many many years, my father who is in his late 70's has always have a mug of this delicious drink before he goes to bed every night. I was very upset when I went to my local supermarket and they did not have any on the shelf. It was only when I searched the web that I found out Cadbury have decided in their infinate wisdom to discontinue making this drink. Both my father and my husband have tried other drinks but nothing matches the distinctive flavour and taste that you get from Bournvita. I can only hope that Cadbury see sense and realise that there is a hugh market out there crying out for the return of their favourite bed time drink and decide to respect their customers without whom they would not be in the position within the sales market that they are at the present time and if they don't then more of us should take our business and money elsewhere. Come on Cadbury play fair with us consumers and give us back our BOURNVITA. Pleeease.
Bournvita has been a regular drink in this household for more years than we can remember. Having tried three different branches of Tesco`s - our usual source - we asked a salesperson at the last and largest branch Why no Bournvita? He was so sure they had some that he escorted Mr B to the display area - but he hadn`t missed it. There was none. A check on their in-store system showed No Stock Held. Well as other unhappy visitor / shoppers on this dooyoo site say it was discontinued by Cadbury`s marketing people we have decided to register our displeasure via an e-mail to them. Two new boxes of Cadbury`s Fingers have gone back for a refund and we will no longer be buying our Cadbury`s Fruit & Nut, Wholenut, or Turkish Delight bars!! Now who shall we give our money to in these reduced sales times....

My wife and i have searched the earth, all the supermarkets in the Bristol area for Cadburys Bournvita, to no joy, so as we are both ex Cadbury employees and now Cadbury pensioners, i decided to contact Cadburys at Bournville, and was told it was decided Cadbury Marketing , to discontinue the sale of this product. I and my Wife are so disapointed at this decision by Cadbury, as there is nothing else like on the market. We and our family have been drinking BOURNVITA be fore bedtime for some 30 odd years or so.Please Cadburys do have a rethink to reintrduce the product so we can all have decent night sleep again. Dave and Sue Allen Bristol
I am most disappointed that Cadbury have decided to withdraw Bournvita, without doubt the finest bedtime drink. I have ended my day with a mug of Bournvita for more years than I care to remember and I have not been able to find a suitable substitute. Despite enquiring at my local stockists, they all came up with the same answer "Sorry, it appears no longer to be available". I am not naive to Cadbury's business concerns if the general demand for the product is not there in sufficient numbers, then tough decisions have to be made, but if there is any chance of a change of heart Please! Please! re-introduce Bournvita at the earliest opportunity.Tony Smallman, Portland Dorset.
I have come onto this site to see what I could find out for my mother in law (aged 91) as she is bereft without her Bournvita. I could not believe it when I heard that Bournvita was no longer available. It is an institution. I remember my father always drank Bournvita before bedtime, that is going back to the 50s.I do have to be honest, however, and say that I could never stand the stuff!! I can quite understand it losing popularity - sorry.
