As it’s approaching the cold winter months or even just the cold months in general it’s hard to stay warm. I like to have a cup of tea every now and then to relax me but there’s nothing I love more at the cold time of year than a cup of hot chocolate. I do like a milky hot chocolate a really nice one like one from Starbuck’s say but this is expensive and requires travel and when it’s late at night everyone has to look for an alternative as most coffee shops are closed. Another thing is that it means always having milk in stock so when I don’t have it I need chocolate powder which can be nice still by just adding water which is also a lot easier and this is why I like Cadbury’s Instant Hot Chocolate.

Cadbury’s has been doing chocolate since 1824 when John Cadbury opened his first shop which is now internationally known. Cadbury’s do a lot of chocolate from Crème Eggs to the Wispa favourite which has returned to Flakes, Picnics and Heroes, Milk Tray and Double Deckers. They pretty much do all of my favourite chocolate and this is why I think of them highly as a brand. The Hot Chocolate is just another great product in the collection and I will continue to tell you more about it.

The packaging of Cadbury’s Instant Hot Chocolate is quite simple but it works really well. The jar is plastic and is almost in the shape of a cylinder but curves in just towards the bottom. The lid is the signature Cadbury’s purple with the logo on top. The plastic label around the whole jar is brown with a purple band and has the Cadbury logo with a white mug which swirls to give the idea of liquid but also to create a Cadbury ‘C’ which is nicely done and the steam from the top of the mug is pink too. The text is all in white so it stands out on the dark background and it works well by not being too cluttered.

As you unscrew the top lid a very nice sweet smell rises up from the jar. It smells like vanilla and faintly chocolatey but makes you want a drink. At first when you buy it, it is sealed with a gold paper finish and you have to pierce and peel this off to get any chocolate out.

So, in a normal mug they recommend you insert four heaped spoonfuls of chocolate powder into your mug which may seem like a lot but when you look in your mug doesn’t look like too much at all. You then fill the kettle up with water and wait for it to boil. I usually have quite a big mug but for any size the 4 spoonfuls seems adequate enough.

Once the kettle has boiled then you are ready to add water usually to the top of your mug so that the drink is made. I usually then give a really good stir after this as you want the powder to evenly mix around the drink and also you don’t want a big lump of dark chocolate powder at the bottom. The liquid turns a brown colour and smells really nice and sweet.

I love the taste of this drink once made as it doesn’t just taste watery like a lot of the water to powder combinations I’ve bought in the past. The chocolaty taste is strong enough and if this isn’t creamy enough you can always do what I do and add the slightest bit of milk just to give the drink that little bit more.

So the drink can be bought in all supermarkets really, and smaller shops especially at this time of year. It can be purchased for approximately £2 but the jar is quite big and is 400g and I have had a LOT of mugs out of this so they are worth the money depending on how much of a hot chocolate addict you are.

Apart from the Instant Hot Chocolate drink there is also the Cadburys Drinking Chocolate which is a similar idea but you add warm milk to your powder instead and it tastes just as nice. There are also highlights sachet’s which come in the flavours dark chocolate, mint, fudge, café latte, orange, espresso and toffee.
