I love hot chocolate - on a cold winter's night (or a warm summer one), under a blanket (or in a bikini!), curling up with a huge steamy mug of hot chocolate (with cream, sprinkles and marshmallows naturally) cannot be beaten.

Cadbury's hot chocolate is generally great. You thwack some milk in the microwave and wait for the pinger poised with your scoop and maybe a little water to dillute a little.

My microwave broke and the thought of getting out a pan and heating it on the hob in the dead of night did not appeal (How lazy - I know....). So instant hot chocolate powder seemed the key....

I appreciated that it would not have quite the same creamy aroma, but I found this really really hollow flavoured. Half the time, despite using boiling water I couldn't seem to make the powder dissolve. It smelt like it would be good, which almost made it worse. It tasted like something had been really really diluted, and just wasn't blending. I assumed I hadn't read it correctly and added more but this just made it swtter and didn't seem to add to the flavour.

Maybe I am just being a puritan! I do like my chocoloate rich and creamy - so this just didn't emulate that well.

There is a balance to be struck. It is healthier than milk hot choc at 120 calories as opposed to 200. And of the 28g only 3.9 is fat. It is marginally better if you add some cold milk... For me though this was not worth it.

Summary: If you want lovely creay tasty hot chocolate buy something else.
