Cains Beers in general: ... Cains Brewery. A regional urban brewery with a lot of character, an excellent range of high quality beers (mainly real ale, but also lager) that are superbly branded. Under the ownership of the enterprising Dusanj brothers, owners since 2003, the brewery has a very bright future and is expanding at a rapid rate- in all respects. Cains brews beer from its beautiful, victorian brewery on Stanhope Street in Liverpo...

... seems that a lot of people are either beer or wine drinkers. I like both equally depending on the occasion and my mood. Can you combine them into one drink and if so is it drinkable?? I am asking these questions as I am sitting here at the computer sipping a pint of Cains Raisin Beer. I know it sounds slightly weird as raisins are dried grapes and surely grapes mean wine? When I saw this in Tescos for one pound sixty I just had to buy it even though I was not going to get anymore beer as I already have a few other bottles to sample .Cain?s Raisin beer actually does use Californian raisins in the br...

... into the latter category - a fine Mild that was well worth risking! Cain's Brewery (or Robert Cain & Co. LTD, as it was renamed in 1991) was set up in Liverpool in 1878, by Robert Cain. Robert was a Merchant Seaman who bought a brewpub in the 1850s. He soon became well known for his good quality ales and soon had enough money (and a large enough following) to buy out an old brewery. Cains built a new brewery at the beginning of the twentieth century and continued to gain respect in the brewing world. After a series of mergers and buyouts, Cains was purchased by Boddingtons in 1985. In 1990 the future looked very bleak - the Company was taken over by Whitbr...

... is brewed in Liverpool and only sold in a small number of pubs. It is perhaps this that has led to the brand having an uncertain future (www.savecainsbeer.com). It will be a great radgedy to see an end to this great name. The company is owned by the Danish Brewery Group A/S. The company feels that it is not making enough money in Britain and so want to sell the Cains brewery and the 10 cains pubs. The main brand is Cain Bitter. A fairl dark ale with a great malty taste. It is quite smooth and slides down easily. It is a nice bitter as unlike some it is not too heavy, which alows you to drink more. :-) Cains goes well with traditional pub food, especially steaks a...
