Captain Morgan Spiced Rum - Not just for pirates . . . A few years ago if anyone said to me rum, I was no thanks straight away. Especially if it happened to be white rum which is awful. Nowadays however I am much much open to the idea of rum and Captain Morgan is the reason for this. I found the drink over in America, where it is really quite popular, wheras I had never heard of it over here. The taste, well it not very nice straight, unless you are a pretty serious alcoholic. Now I don't drink very much these days - honest - it's not nice to have a hangover with a 3 year old getting you up at 6 in the morning but Morgans Spiced Rum is worth a tipple or two if you are indulging and I do sometimes have a couple if we have friends over or at a barbecue. Warms you up the way this summer has been. First of all it's 35% vol and you can buy the 70cl bottle for around £12.50 or if you really like it the 1 litre bottle sells for around £15.50 so not the cheapest alcohol on the go but worth it for the warming spicy flavour. Captain Morgan Spiced Rum -------------------------- Rums are generally made by fermenting sugar cane byproducts such as molasses with water, the addition of yeast to this mixture will cause fermentation. They are then distilled, making a clear or straw colored liqueur, ranging in proof between 80 and 150. All rums are then “aged” in barrels formerly used to age whiskey or bourbon, anywhere from 1 to 30 years. In the case of dark rums, caramel coloring is sometimes added.
