Advantages: Oh so tasty.
Disadvantages: Don't drink and Drive.
This is my first review on Dooyoo so I thought I'd dive in at the deep end and review a product responsible for many a good time. This drink is one of my favourite alcoholic beverages.
Morgans Spiced Website tells us thatMorgans Spiced is actually distilled (in part) in Menstrie, Scotland. The rum is aged in charred oak casks and blended with other flavours such as cassia and vanilla.
I prefer this brand over Captain Morgans (amber) any day. It is a little known fact that Diageo snapped up the previously independant company because it's sales were three times that of Diageo's own Bacardi rum in Scotland alone around 4 years ago. History aside and onto the product.
Packaging - Not so long ago the bottle label was changed in a subtle way. Essentially the font was enlarged; the white of the label was encrusted onto the bottle and more inricate detail was included. Personally I prefer the new image. Sleek and smooth, which is true to the experience of the drink in my mind.
Price - excellent value for money. It can cost from anything between £9.99 to £15 odds for the 70cl bottle. Bargain at the price in my opinion. This drink is just so moreish.
Taste - I take it in a "high ball" glass filled with ice, 70ml measure of Morgans topped with Pepsi (NOT COKE) and a generous wedge of lime. This particular combination is in my mind a little bit of luxury. I have a sweet tooth no doubt and this satisfies that perfectly. Imagine a vanilla custard tart with lime coulis and you are some of the way there.
The reason I state the way I take it is because if you change the measures or even the cola brand. It will taste different.
The cola cube - This is a fantatstic old school cocktail also known as a long morgans.
You will need...
Ice cubes
High ball glass
2 chunky lime wedges
70 ml Morgans spiced
Britvic Lime Cordial
Angostura Bitters
Pepsi (NOT COKE) - much love to coca cola but please not with morgans spiced!
Fill the glass with ice.
Add three dashes of angostura bitters.
Run the ice around the inside of the glass coating the side with angostura evenly.
Add 12.5ml of lime britvic.
Add 70ml of morgans spiced.
Top with Pepsi.
Pull lime and morgans up through the pepsi 3 - 4 times.
Squeeze one lime wedge into the glass and rub around the rim, then discard and add the other to garnish.
I suggest using my recipe to kick off. It really is good. Then alter it to taste as you see fit. However please drink responsibly.
Enjoy!!
Summary: If you enjoy the cocktail. Drop me a line and I'll happily suggest some more.

- 16/05/09 I like the sound of your cocktail. Having said that, I'm a 'regular' cap'n Morgan's drinker and it has to be with Coca Cola! Lovely first review. |
