Carlos 1 is known as Carlos Primero - Spanish for first. Do not confuse with other Carlos numbers - Carlos V or Quinto - which are good but not the quality of Primero. Carlos 1 is perhaps the best known of the better Spanish brandies and more readily available in the UK. It is very smooth and rich and a delight to drink. Detailed comparison with French brandies and cognac is pointless - this is a different drink. Many find it less harsh than French cognac.
