Advantages: Nice taste, cheap

Disadvantages: Not as strong as other beers

Carlsberg is a strange lager - it always gets a lot of criticism from drinkers I know of "premium" beer like Stella, who claim it tastes like, well, urine, and look down on it as something cheap and nasty. I really don't see what all the criticism is about - perhaps it's that being a student has made me less discerning with regard to what depths I will plumb alcohol-wise, but I think it's an affordable and nice tasting lager.

If I'm ever in a pub, Carlsberg is what I will most regularly order - most pubs offer an Extra Cold version, which is just a wonderful thirst-quencher on a hot day. There's not much like it, although I must say I don't think there's THAT much of a temperature difference between this and the normal version. The drink has a mild tinge that differentiates it from beer of the same tier such as Carling - it tickles the palette slightly on the first taste as you get accustomed to it.

Carlsberg is also offered very cheaply in can form - you can regularly buy an 8-pack for £5.50, which is extremely cheap. Also, you can buy the bottles in a number of varieties, and the 1-unit bottles are also quite popular if my local One Stop is any indication. These ones are also immensely cheap, with a 4-pack costing a mere £2.25. Still, if you're drinking for the buzz and nothing else, this might not be enough, but if you're on a budget and just want a mild kick along with a cool refreshment, then this is without a doubt the way to go!

Although fairly divisive, I have nothing but praise for this lager - it's well-priced, available in a number of forms, and has an agreeable tang. Recommended.

Summary: A tasty and affordable alcoholic beverage
