While I am still waiting for the category manager to add a category for my op Toy Story on Ice, I have discovered this category on Chai on Dooyoo.

WHAT IS CHAI?

I can just imagine you asking me ‘ What on earth is CHAI?’

Chai is the term used for tea in India. Pronounced as a single syllable and rhymes with 'pie'. It is a type of spiced milk drunk by people in India. You can make Chai in different ways. Before I go into variety of recipes for Chai, I would like to tell you what Chai is made of:

• Rich black tea
• heavy milk
• a combination of various spices
• a sweetener

The secret of making a good cup of Chai is to boil it until the colour changes to brownish red.

How to Make Masala Cup of Chai

Masala

(The ingredients for the Masala can be bought from any Indian stores)

3 - 4 Cardamom pods (peeled if possible)
3 Cloves
1 Small piece of Cinnamon
1 to 2 whole Black Pepper

Grind the above ingredient together until it is formed into fine powder. You might want make more and store it in a small jar. I usually make it in bulk and use it as and when I want.

Boil 1 cup of water
Add 2 tea bags of any ordinary tea
Add Sugar or Sweetener to your requirement
Add a pinch of Masala
½ Cup of Milk

Boil Chai until the colour changes to brownish red. And your Chai is ready to drink.

Ginger Chai

Boil 1 cup of water
Add 2 tea bags of any ordinary tea
Add Sugar or Sweetener to your requirement
Add a teaspoon of crushed ginger (fresh), if you don’t have any fresh ginger then dry ginger is as good as fresh one. Except that you would have grind the dry ginger.
½ Cup of Milk

Cardamom Chai

Grind some Cardamom pods

Follow the same procedure as shown above except do not add any ginger. Instead add a pinch of Cardamom powder
.

Green Chai

This is my favourite kind of Chai but unfortunately, I have not been able to find the green tea leaves in UK. I make the most of it while I go to India.

If you ever visit India then maybe you would like to try this Chai out.

Follow the above procedure to make tea except add a few green tea leaves instead of Ginger or any Masala.

Green Mint Chai

If you like Mint then you will love Mint Chai.

All you do is follow the same procedure except add some green Mint Leaves.

I will tell you one secret; all of these are very good for you if you have flu or even a stomach upset.

I know it's blasphemy to say this on an English web site, but I can't stand tea. :( - Christiane
