Ciuc Premium is one of those beers that prides itself on being made from mountain water, originally I always thought that it was just a marketing angle and that the water beer was made from could be straight out of the toilet bowl for all we knew. But a higher quality of water is undoubtedly going to make the beer tastier and fresher and as I found with the Polish beer Harnas.. it may actually be true.

Ciuc derives from Miercurea Ciuc in Romania and the water from the mountains of the Harghita mountain range. There's nothing wrong with Ciuc, I couldn't imagine anyone complaining about it as it doesn't have a strong taste and therefore goes down easily, the ABV at 5.0% is neither excessive nor weak and the freshness ensures that this is a beer that will go down very easily indeed. A gentle mild hoppy taste gives it just enough flavour to not come across as mountain water!

If there is an aspect I could criticise this beer on it's that it plays it a little too safe with a very neutral taste, golden look with a sensible but not extravagant head like a TV beer. Best served very chilled of course!

Summary: A chilled bottle of Ciuc on a hot day after hiking is good!
