Advantages: Good bottle style, Great taste, Initially refreshing.
Disadvantages: High sugar content, will leave you thirsty!
Coca Cola is the famous drink that has been around since 1886! Having been around so long there must be some secret to its success, so I'm here to review it and find out.
Looks
Coca Cola comes in a very distinct bottle, it starts off thin at the top then widens to a round middle then thins slightly to the bottom, it is ridged with little indents to give it the look of the classic Coca Cola glass bottle but of course it is plastic. This effect is really quite good and helps gives it a classic stylish yet modern appearance. The bottle lid is red and has the famous Coca Cola writing on it which is very elaborate and I don't think the writing design has changed since it was launched way back in 1886. The label is also the classic Coke red and has the elaborate Coca Cola logo on it with a white line underneath; you also get a handy indicator advising you of the bottle size. In my case this is 1.25 litres. The design is very eye catching and you wouldn't miss it if you were just browsing, I wasn't planning on picking it up but the classic Coca Cola styling sucked me in! On the back of the bottle you have as usual the standard ingredients list and of course the nutritional information. These are rather tiny and you probably would need a magnifying glass to read them properly! Much easier to read is the little display they have which shows the nutritional information for a single glass of Coca Cola. The liquid inside the Coca Cola bottle is a jet black though if you hold it to a light it will turn a dark reddish brown.
The Drink
When I drink Coca Cola I have to drink it ice cold but if you don't have time to chill the bottle I find you can just add some ice cubes into your glass and this will chill your drink down enough. If you smell the drink you get a distinct sweet aroma that is unique to Coca Cola, if you pour it into your glass be sure to pour at a slower pace as when you pour fast you will get a lot of froth bubbling up your cup! When it is in your glass the liquid colour remains the jet black you are used to but if your cup is thinner you will see some reddish brown hints. Upon taking a sip you will notice it is carbonated, not as much as some drinks merely a gentle fizz that doesn't assault your mouth when you drink it (I find the fizz can be harsher from a can as you don't have any ice to dilute the fizz). The drink itself is quite thick for a liquid and has a sweet syrup like quality to it, the taste is so definitive Coca Cola is now its own flavour and you will find lots of other drinks that try to emulate the classic taste. Coca Cola is very refreshing to drink at first especially on a hot summers day, but there is a downside as it contains high levels of sugar you will start to feel thirsty after drinking it, even now I have only had a sip 30 seconds or so ago yet my mouth and the back of my throat feel dry so make sure you have a bottle of water handy!
Nutritional Information
In a 250ML glass of Coca Cola you will get 105kcal of energy, a huge 27 grams of sugar, 0grams of fat and no saturated fat and no sodium. It's not the healthiest drink you could have and you probably will be more refreshed by a plain glass of water which will not leave you feeling thirsty, but a glass of Coca Cola every now and then is nice.
Price & Conclusion
My 1.25 litre bottle of Coca Cola cost me just a pound from my corner shop, it was on special offer and usually would cost more. You can also get Coca Cola from supermarkets in different sized bottles from 500ml to 2 litres as well as in cans of 330ml. There are also some variations you may find such as Cherry Coca Coke and for those of you who want to enjoy Coca Cola without the high sugar content Coke Zero. For a really (initially)refreshing drink that tastes great, there is nothing that compares with Coca Cola (accept no cheap imitations!) it will at first leave you very refreshed but it is annoying that soon after you will desperately need a glass of water plus it is not very good for you with its very high sugar content. 4/5
Summary: The classic Coca-Cola is great but will leave you thirsty!
