Advantages: Taste great
Disadvantages: High sugar content & not cheap
Its amazing to believe that Coca Cola was first launched in 1886 and is still going strong to this day - over a century later. It is a soft cola drink and is still the most popular drink of its kind with its only real rival being Pepsi, but in my opinion Pepsi doesn't come close to the original taste of Coca Cola.
It is available to purchase in either cans or bottles. The cans are 330ml and you can buy bottles of coke in a variety of sizes. Starting at 500ml, 1.25L, and 2Ltr bottles. The bottles are made of clear plastic and are always re-cyclable, as are the aluminium cans.
A simple can of coke now costs around 70p from most vending machines and I believe it to be more cost effective to buy the bottles instead. A 500ml bottle costs about 95p, a 1.25ltr bottle around £1.32 and the larger 2ltr bottles are around £1.56 per bottle. In most larger supermarkets you can generally find special offers on Coca Cola so its worth shopping around before you buy.
Coca Cola have launched a few different versions of the original 'Cola' drink. They do a Diet Coke version, a Zero version (basically meaning it contains no sugar/calories), Coke with a hint of lemon, Cherry Coke and Coke with a hint of Lime in. I am a fan of the Cherry Coke but tend to stay clear of the other flavoured colas as for me you just can't beat the original.
You can recognise Coca Cola on the shelves by its distinctive logo. A red background with the white 'Coca Cola' scripted writing across the front. The basic logo is always the same - but for the other flavoured and diet versions of the drink you will find the logo in different colours.
Coca Cola can be brought from pretty much anywhere. Supermarkets, petrol stations, vending machines and convenience stores are the most popular places to find this drink but cost efficiency, I have always found supermarkets the most effective on price. If you have time to shop around it may be worth looking in pound shops too as you can sometimes get deals on the cans.
As for the drink itself it is black in colour and quite fizzy and bubbly (so don't shake cans/bottles before opening as all you end up with is a mess!). The fizz lasts a long time and doesn't go 'flat' easily as with some other cheaper colas. The taste is really refreshing, especially if the Cola has been chilled first - this maximises the taste for me.
I have tried supermarket branded colas purely because for a 2Ltr bottle you can tend to pick one up for less than 50p which is over 1/3rd less than Coca Cola, and although some of them aren't bad - I really don't think that for a quality Cola drink, you can beat the original Coca Cola.
Nutritonal Info:(Per 500ml bottle)
Carbohydrates 10.6g
Sugars 10.6g
Pretty light reading - but for nutritional value - this is about all it contains. It contains nothing at all in the way of protein, fibre, salt or fat. However, as stated the sugar content is quite high, so if you are watching the calories - you may want to opt for either the Diet or Zero versions which can be found for the same price as the Original.
Summary:
I have tried pretty much every Cola drink available on the shelves but nothing beats the taste of Coca Cola for me. Tasty and refreshing. It may be the most expensive brand on the shelves - but their quality can't be beaten. Recommended
Summary: Best around in my opinion
