Advantages: The right coffee tastes great and does the trick!
Disadvantages: The wrong coffee is just horrible
As a kid and a teen, I drank tea. Not a lot, as mum and dad pointed out that it wasn't good to have too much, especially seeing as I liked it with sugar and I was a particularly hyperactive child anyway! However, my adult years so far have slowly brought me round to the phenomenon that is a mug of coffee!
Most days when I wake up, the thing I need to kick start me is a nice cup of tea. For some reason, I find it does the job first thing of giving me a bit of a prolonged boostg throughout the day. However, that's the only one. From there on in, it's coffee. The caffeine gives me an instant boost, and even though it doesn't necessarily have a long lasting effect, it's the instant boost I need.
Like everyone, I suppose, I have my strange routines. If I am at work, I tend to have it black, with one sugar, but if I'm at home, then it's usually white with two sugars. No particular reason other than the fact that we don't have a fridge at work, and so milk is a bit harder to come by for the coffee!
If I don't have a milky coffee, then I'm particular about which coffee I drink, as taste comes into it a little more than if you have milk to mask it somewhat. I prefer to have a gold blend of coffee, and nearly every brand of these will do. Nescafe is particularly nice, but most own brand coffees, so long as they're Gold Blend, will do. Tesco do a rather nice one, and surprisingly, Somerfield's own Gold Blend is rather nice, too.
However, there are only a few coffees I like when there's no milk, and it's rare that I'll drink it without. One exception is Espresso. A short, shot of coffee with one sugar for me, and it tastes just right. And made properly, too. It has to be good coffee. I guess this is something that has been drummed into me by my dad. He'll often judge a restaurant based on how good their coffee is!!!!
Nescafe regular blend isn't a favourite of mine, nor are other leading brands when it comes to their regular roasts, and I guess this is something to do with the beans themselves. Coffe usually comes to us in granules or powder form, rarely do we see it in beans, as the ads all show us. How and where it's grown has as much to do with the taste and strength as the roasting process does, so it's always worth finding out how and where the coffee has been made.
So, I guess I'm a bit of a quirky one: no milk, then it's gotta be gold blend. With milk, an I don't really mind. One thing's for sure, though: I love the stuff, and have often thought about attaching a drip to keep it coming!
Summary: Great drink for keeping me going throughout the day

- 05/06/09 I was a staunch tea drinker until I hit my 20s. Then my doctor advised against taking coffee in large amounts (to replace my Pro Plus addiction) and over the years now in my 30s Im a happy medium of the two. I love most brands but Nescafe Original gives me bizarre headaches. However Im pleased that I no longer went down the Mellow Birds route! |
