Advantages: Nice taste.
Disadvantages: Is a little bit expensive.
I usually get my milk delivered, but on the odd occasion run out of milk so have to buy some! So I decided on buying some while I was in Tesco's one day. I thought I'd try something I'd never tried before, and that's Cravendale. I'd seen the adverts enough time, which tempted me into wanting to try it. For a 2 Litre bottle I paid £1.20. This isn't the cheapest milk around, but didn't really mind paying this for a one-off try.
PACKAGING
<><><><><>
The milk comes in a white plastic bottle with a handle which is big enough for you to put all of your four fingers round it, making it really easy to hold. The screw-on top in light blue. The labelling is white and light blue.
On the labelling there is the Cravendale brand name with a little daisy about it. On each side of the bottle you will find a bit of information about the milk. You will also find the contact details, although there is no address - just the phone number and website address.
The bottle itself is quite big and bulky. But, like I said, the handle is big enough to wrap your hand round, so can be easily held. Embossed on the bottle you will see the lettering 1.5 litres and 2 litres at the top.
THE MILK
<><><><>
The milk itself is Pasteurised Standardised Homogenised Filtered Milk (whole milk to put it simply!). On the side of the bottle it explains to you why this milk tastes so good. They say, "It's because it's finely filtered to remove more bacteria than pasteurisation alone. It's this purity which means you can enjoy Cravendale's delicious, fresher taste for longer too.
They also give you a checklist. They say that this milk is British milk, stays fresher longer, fresher tasting, lasts for 7 days once opened, all the calcium and no additives or preservatives. Sounds good, doesn't it?! Per 100 ml there is 3.5g of fat and 64 kcal.
Now, what about the taste?! As this is whole milk you would expect it to taste quite creamy, wouldn't you?! Well, you won't be disappointed! This milk tastes really nice and creamy. It has an ever so slightly thick texture to it which I expected with it being whole milk. It tastes really nice and fresh. Really, it doesn't taste any different to any other whole milk. But I suppose this is more expensive because it's been filtered.
The smell is nice. Milk doesn't really have a smell (unless, of course, it's gone sour!). But this smells like, well, milk!
It also tells you on the side of the bottle, "Cravendale PurFiltre filtration originated in Canada where scientists discovered that ice or cold filtered beer technology could be adapted to make a milk taste better".
SUMMARY
<><><><><
Well, I really like this milk. It's lasted me well and is nice on cereal and in tea and coffee. I've drunk a glass of this chilled and went down very well. It tastes thick and creamy and very nice! Compared to other brands this is very nice. IIt doesn't taste much different to other milk, but still nice all the say. This may be a bit on the expensive side, but it's worth it.
