Advantages: Stays fresh, taste.
Disadvantages: More expensive than other brands
Milk is one of those things that is in almost everyone's weekly shop, and with quite a few different brands out there, it's one of those products where many people tend to pick up the cheapest. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion - but in my house we never know how much milk we are going to get through!
My other half has breakfast cereal almost every day of the week. I try to, but more often than not it doesn't happen. And then there's all the milk for cups of tea, etc, and of course the odd cup of hot chocolate here and there (which in my opinion tastes much better with milk than with water!) So with the uncertainty of how much milk we will use - normally my fault with my phases of eating cereal every day to other weeks where I don't have it at all - we never know how much milk to buy. We have settled into buying a 4 pint of Cravendale most weeks.
*So why Cravendale?*
With the uncertainty of how much milk we are going to use we sometimes end up with milk left over at the end of the week. No one likes the taste of milk when it begins to go off! Cravendale claims to last for 7 days once opened - a definite plus point in our house. It lives up to those claims. This means that whether I'm going through a 'cereal' phase or not we never end up throwing the milk away. It lasts long enough just by my fiance using it, but by buying the larger bottles of milk we never have the problem of running out during the week either. So everyone is happy.
*How does it last?*
As far as I am aware, Cravendale 'works' as it is filtered as well as being pasteurised, and this is what enables it to keep it's freshness for that bit longer.
*Taste*
We buy semi-skimmed milk, and it tastes lovely. Nothing like a nice cold glass of milk when it takes your fancy, and this milk lives up to expectations. The semi-skimmed stuff has a nice degree of creaminess to it. Just right it my opinion - it's neither too watery or too thick.
*Summary*
So overall, in our house, this is the milk of choice. Depending on how much milk you use though you may be just as good with buying 'normal' milk. For us though it's worth spending a few extra pence as it ensures we're not going to end up throwing milk away.
Tesco now also do their own version of this - they also now have milk that claims to last 7 days. It is a little bit cheaper than Cravendale, and appears to be pretty similar, but seeing as Asda is our closest supermarket we often end up in there for the weekly shop - but something to consider if it's Tesco you shop at.
Summary: Tastes good, and lives up to it's claims of staying fresher for longer
